Took my wife's Q5 TDI in for a check engine light. My son scanned it last week before I took it in with VAGCOM and said that the was a code for EGR flow and MAP & MAF. Got a call from service writer saying the code was for a DEF code for the DEF controller. When I mentioned about the EGR codes, I was told that the codes that came from their scanner was correct but we must have used a generic scanner. I told him we used VAGCOM and he blew me off. Anyone have any idea how an EGR code would lead to a bad DEF controller?

Was told that the DEF controller is in control for the emission system. It has been 2 weeks since the repair and all is good. Fingers crossed.

Yes, DEF and EGR are interconnected. If no code has returned after two weeks most likely it is all good.

Today is March 31 and still no problems, knock on wood. Over engineered but I love these cars.
