Scrapping noise from driveline

I have this noise for a year . sounds like metal parts rubbing together. gear in or out , it is speed dependant
Changed brakes discs, pads , right front bearing , noise still there

it goes away when I turn slightly to the right , becomes worse when turning left . changes frequency going over bumps or when the front suspension travel is excessive

checked the flanges on the tranny , no play

thinking outer joint , boots were never torn . no cluncking noises when turning full steering

car has had SMF conversion for 100K now

do you have a skid plate? My would rub from time to time and make an awful sound

no, factory belly pan

I will put it on jack stands tomorrow and run it to see if I can pinpoint the source

I have the same noise, much worse when it sits for days. Always thought it was beat-up brake dust shields, but I never looked at the exhaust for shielding.

yea, my sound doesn't change much with speed

at first I thought it was a dragging brake pad but both pads had similar wear
it is very audible from inside the cabin , I should be able to pinpoint it with the car on the stands

I had that happen and it was just the rotor shields rubbing on the rotor. It was very loud.

I guess I will change the drivers wheel bearing too

Dust sheild or bearing would be my guess. I'd try bending the dust sheild back a bit, if you haven't already, it doesn't take much of a rub to make a pretty substantial noise. If there is nothing rubbing ,my next guess would be a wheel bearing.

I checked the dust shields on both sides they are straight and not touching anything

noise changes when suspension is compressed ( going over speed bumps )

Sometimes it would be nice to have a midget that could fit in the engine compartment and pinpoint noises.

My guess is CV joints or wheel bearing. Since it actually changes frequency (instead of intensity only) on pumps, I would lean toward CV joint. Have you checked that you can't wobble your wheels on the bearings and that there is no improper suspension play? Having the alignment checked could be helpful as well.

Just repaired mine - it was left axle, loose w/stripped threads

Easy enough to inspect & retorque and see

I needed axle, bearing, and hub but all fixed and proper now

just finished mine

drivers bearing , outer race pitted

I replaced all ball joints , tie rod ends and found the axle shield rubbing on the metal part of the inner joint

Some of the low frequency noise was the bearing and the scraping noise was the axle shield. I use a 2.0 one and it has a metal part in it

on the positive side , the car feels tight and no more play in the steering
