Apparently I made a mistake with the 'A' in the math, it should be a '1' (no division by ten). So, putting what kapps and savageman posted together, the MTH should be 00090005FFD8 for Fahrenheit.

But why not stick to good ol' metric ºC, as the car's engineers surely intended, instead of converting to a scale invented by some obscure hanseatic physicist for use in his hometown Danzig?:D

Oh I wont disagree with you there, As a mechanical engineer I agree just with water temp in F it would be a mind F*** to see *C intake air and *F water temp

We know *F=*C *9/5 + 32

I see the 9 and the 5 in the MTH which im guessing is the 9/5 but where is the plus 32? is it the FFD8?

There's a 40 degrees offset in those temperature definitions (probably so it never has to go negative), which is what the FFD8 takes care of. And -40ºC=-40ºF. Nifty, eh?

So I am really thinking about getting one of these for my car. Im still in limbo if I should get the Scan Gauge II or the Ultra Gauge. Im leaning towards the ultra gauge cause it's much cheaper and seems to monitor everything I am looking for. But it seems all of you are using the Scan Gauge II so is anyone currently using the Ultra Gauge or have use both?

thanks diesl i put in the boost and egt1 from your list i believe its working good..idle is .3 or so boost and max was 23.1 ish....egts are 120-180 idling (3 inch sure cools quick) .... WOT pulls i was seeing 600s
I don't think your gauge is displaying the EGT correctly.

I have the same set up as you. Malone / Rawtek and I'm ideling at 320 - coasting in gear at 160 - 180.

Your WOT ETG's are also really low...Any stomp on mine and the numbers for north of 1100 in a hurry....

I have an ultra gauge and now the scan gauge II, what I can say is this at twice the price it is twice the device,,,my scan gauge is in my scion and is a great gauge for simple gauges and normal temp, volt, fuel and so on, it has no programmable features, what your car has is what you can get, so my 2 cents is if you have a gasser and want more details may be fine. For the Diesel I wanted EGT and Boost, the scan gauge delivered,, Thanks to the fine folks here, I entered the codes provided in the 1st post for the Passat and was running with monitors working in 30 min, still need to dial in the permanent mount but that will wait till the weekend. picked it up at auto zone,, I mentioned the $10 off that you can get online and they gave it to me in the store........

thanks to all on this post and form as the help and information here is priceless,,, now I have my sites set on the Ross tech cable and software.....

Anyone know if the scan gauge can display oil temp. I have water temp and suspect during warm up that oil temp follows water temp. In light of the many turbo failures, I would like to watch oil temp during cold weather starts, because the turbo might not be getting enough oil until it warms up a bit.

The Passat TDI doesn't have an oil temperature sensor. It may be possible to retrofit the one from a Beetle TDI.

Ditto what rmohd said. I started with an UltraGuage too but then switched to a ScanGuage when I discovered it couldnt display EGT and Boost. (I bought the UG before the EGT and BST programmatics were known for the SG)

Have a OBD II bluetooth module on the way and plan to use Torque on a Galaxy Tab 3 7.0. Torque is even more versatile but the display device and mounting options are a bit more complex.

03 Jetta is going to be very different. For starters, it doesn't have an EGT sensor, so you won't be able to monitor that.

...but if you search on "boost xgauge" in the A4 forum specifically you should be able to find a bunch of threads discussing the appropriate coding for your A4 (1995.5-2003).

Alright guys I was wondering something, I have a 2010 Jetta 2.0CR and Tomo366 was having problems because the Scangauge II didn't want to read his EGTs. Has anyone fixed this problem or know of another monitor that does read EGTs along with other engine monitors?

Thanks

Sorry if I'm being dense here, but I'm a bit confused...

I see EGT settings from the Jetta guys that work for me and other 2012-2014 Passat owners. On post 1 and some other places, I see other Passat owners using the CANSF Catalyst settings from the ScanGauge site. I tried both, and get different readings for "EGT1".

So...for a 2013 Passat, which one should I be using: The CANSF setting from post 1 or the settings in post 142?

Picked up a SGII using the $50 coupon, sent a video to my father and now he is getting one for his 56th Birthday to use on his F250 PSD.
BTW, Does anyone notice a slow flickering (low screen refresh) when it is in LOW Backlight?

Is this normal or return worthy?
Thanks!

Pre-turbo EGT, the one we care about...

Is it:

Choice "A" (from "self study guide"):
TXD: 07DF0178
RXF: 054106780000
RXD: 3810
MTH: 00090032FFD8

...or...

Choice "B" (From Scangauge site CANSF):
TXID: 07DF013C
RXF: 0441053C0000
RXD: 2810
MTH: 00090032FFD8

Can a fellow TDI'er set me straight?:)

NAM: EG1

That is the pre-turbo sensor. You can change "NAM" to be whatever three letter acronym you want. I use "EGT" for pre-turbo and "CAT" for pre-cat. I monitor both on ScanGauge.

I'll try reseating the obdii
will report back on other colors.
Thanks!
No deal on reseating connector.

I increased the refresh rate now it is pulsing faster.

Low brightness it does it in every color EXCEPT Red.

High brightness it is fine EXCEPT for RED. weird..

going to give it another week and then look up the return policy from advance.

Definitely doesn't sound normal unless your eye are more sensitive to flickering than mine. I would go ahead and exchange it.
