I wasn't going to advertise but after the great level of customer service I received from Ryan some recognition is due.
I purchased one of Ryan's first kits back in the summer. I was a little bit hesitant with the whole payment method at first. The fact that I was shelling out a decent amount of coin without actually meeting the person and that he was across the pond didn’t help. Ryan’s quick reply’s and constant communication definitely helped alleviate any doubt that I was going to be ripped off.
As for the product itself, I brought it to my mechanic who is also quite big in the gasser custom fabrication and performance world; he was blown away at the quality of work I handed him. He said nothing was half as$ed or rushed.
When it came to the install, there was a bit of jigging about to do on how to get the turbo to mount, clocking of the turbo and then how we’d get access to do up all the fasteners. Biggest issue was getting the turbo clocking to clear the drive axles. No matter how we positioned it, the outlet was always really close to the axle – well a bit of custom work later the issue was solved and the turbo went in with plenty of room to spare. Basically we ended up cutting the end of the compressor and then changed the angle the air exits slightly and now I can go as low as I want and never have to worry about hitting the axle. Later it was found out that the 034 Motor Sport 50 Duro mounts I had installed in the car at the time were completely worn out and the motor was not only leaning too far back but had sagged down almost 2 inches. After we replaced them with BFI Stage 1 (65 duro) mounts we noticed TONNS of room between the turbo housing outlet and axle and the custom work was not really needed. The only other issue we encountered was the tapped hole on the turbo wasn’t good enough for us to put in an EGT probe. The angle at which it came out was too close to the exhaust runner and as such we had to drill and tap our own hole in the exhaust manifold. Shouldn’t be a problem in the new kit as I’ve noticed that the newer ones have a tapped hole right where we put ours. Other than that everything else went in like butter.
I got Malone tuning to write software for my setup and after about 8 revisions we finally got something that I was happy with. I can’t thank Mark enough at his level of service and dedication to what he does. That man doesn’t stop until you’re happy, and even when you think you are happy, he’s come back a few weeks later and said “here try this tune, I’ve tweaked it a little and I think it’ll work even better.” Can’t argue with that at all! At a recent dyno day before we had finalized the tuning I put down 235hp and 425 peak tq on a 4th gear pull. I did two runs and both seemed to be pretty much the same. Apart from the level of smoke I'm pretty happy with the results! The car drives and behaves like a stock car for regular commuting and then when you get bored with that, the car hauls when you put your foot into it. Compared to the 17/22 I used to have, it’s a night and day difference. My last dyno with the 17/22 was 198hp and 380tq, it came on strong but the power fell off fast and didn’t have much top end. This 2260VK spools a little slower than the 17/22 but it doesn’t let off until it hits the limiter (still stock). First and second gear at full throttle are basically useless – there is too much torque to keep the wheels down but 3rd 4th and 5th gears keep you pinned to your seat.
Overall I'm very happy at this kit, I wish this was available back when I first started modding the car, I would have jumped on it back then and never looked back! I look forward to upgrading my injector nozzles as I'm told I'm maxed out with what they can do right now. Hopefully they will get rid of the smoke and wake up the turbo a little more!
My setup as it sits now :
Stock PD130 ASZ motor with a Stage 2 Colt Cam
Ryan P’s GTB2260VK turbo kit
3” turbo back exhaust
Custom 2.5” FMIC
30PSI Boost on a 4Bar MAP sensor
I had a few pictures of the install process on my phone but I must of unloaded them onto my desktop – if I remember I’ll post those pictures another time.
TL;DR – Ryan P’s turbo kit is a quality product that not only looks good but performs as well!
