Anyone know at what the RPM range is the max torque at? I thought read it was 1900 RPM.

That is right. The torque fall off very swiflty below 1700 rpm. I don't ask for torque from my car unless it is at 1600 rpm.

The newer CR cars peak higher I thought. Or at least have a broader band (more like a gasser) than the older cars.

I know the 2.0L CR engine makes less TQ than the 2.0L PD.

I know mine has plenty of pull at 1600 rpm. When I get up close to 2000 it really starts to pull hard. Cruising at 1600 I can still step on the go pedal and get good power.

I thought I read somewhere the band was 1600-2600rpm ....but don't quote me on that.

They had a nice graph at NAIAS last year, I recall it peaking higher than 1900, like maybe around 2100. But even at 1500 RPM is still makes more than a Civic engine can at ANY RPM, LOL.

Yeah, this motor seems to pull better than my 2011 Golf did at the lower rpm's, huge torque down low. Early on it seemed to want to lose steam after 3800 rpm's, but it now pulls hard all the way through the band. I'm amazed at how strong it is at the lower end of the torque band, great motor and transmission/6M.

This solenoid injector model CKRA motor with DEF fluid is tuned completely differently than the previous motored models with CleanDiesel technology. Oilhammer needs to take one of these out in 6 speed manual flavor for a test drive to believe it. The boost and the torque come on not quite like RC stage 2 & 205 nozzles, but close. Car is a little heavier, but pulls like an ox down low if you go there... probably not a good idea to do it too often if you want turbo longevity with your Borg Warner KKK turbo.

Actually, oilhammer HAS driven them. 3 to be exact. I know how they drive... and my B5 will easily best it performance wise. It won't MPG wise, though, not by a long shot. :p

Tell me about the B5 and how they compare performance-wise, never driven one. Is your B5 stock?

Mine has RC1+. Stock, the BHW is 136hp, 247tq. Not exactly sure what numbers the RC1 makes, but it is a SIGNIFIGANT difference.

But the power band is narrower than the CR 2.0L (albeit all PDs are a bit broader than the VEs).

Unfortunately, VAG slapped us with a manditory 5sp slushbox on all US B5 TDIs, so some of the fun is stunted.

It is a smaller car, but not sure about the weight... it may actually weigh more than the B7 (it feels like it does).

X2 - But I still love the new Passat too. Totally different beasts. And I have two stock B5.5 Passat TDI's.

At least one of the reasons the CR car peak around 2000 rpm is because it is at this rpm the DPF regen process is most effective. The proper regen requires a constant source of both heat and oxygen.

My manual says 236 lbs - ft @ 1,500 - 2,500 rpm. Looking at some torque curves, like at Malone Tuning for example, it seems like the absolute maximum is right around 2,200 rpm. By feel alone I would guess closer to 2,000 rpm.
