RocketChipped at BARTuning in Houston

Just got RC3 flashed in newly purchased '03 Blue Golf by Mike Staley at BARTuning. Incredible! Blue Golf seemed anemic for ~800 miles compared to what I have with RC3. I tried to really get into it on my way into work but the V1 advised me to keep it at the speed limit. Go see Mike if you need RC tuning. I was @ the shop for about 30 minutes including some hot laps around the block. :D

Jeff & Mike -- Thanks for the tune! Blue Golf will be back for more.

Or if you can go for a few days without your car, just pull out your ecu and overnight it to Jeff. he will tune it and overnight it back.

I got an rc tune 7 days ago, it is very hard to control my right foot. My car revs to 5800rpm now and easly pulls to 90+ in 3rd. Thanks Jeff!!!!:D

If this becomes a real problem for you, you could always try a bungee cord from the accelerator pedal to the headrest support over your right shoulder... As a bonus, it could also act as an auxiliary secondary (ternary?) passive restraint...

I can only imagine what your car feels like. An ALH that powerful in a car that lightweight! That is my dream car set-up, do you know by any change your curb weight?

Has anybody asked Jeff to tune out EGR (this is in a PD)? If so, are you getting constant EGR insufficient flow faults? My friend followed the recalibration instructions and it didn't seem to help. i.e. EGR CEL kept coming back.

egr deletes are off road tunes. But yes I have a friend with it in his off road pd.

well then thats 2 friends with off road tunes and no cel. The faults do show up with vagcom but the check engine light does not come on. If the electrical parts were still plugged in there would be no codes.

I guess you shouldn't count mine as it's an EDC15 architecture, like an ALH whereas 04-05 BEW's have EDC16's. Mine has no EGR issues in VCDS, probably because it's on a simpler ECU.

ok, that is good info... this 04 off road PD is throwing EGR CELs pretty regularly.. my friend went to jeff and jeff got him to do some kind of VAGCOM recalibration but it didn't seem to make any difference... i don't believe any other mods were made such as blocking off or disconnecting stuff.. anybody got any clues for him?

Doing a full EGR delete on EDC16 usually comes down to just blocking the trouble codes outright.

It is easy to keep the light off on EDC15 as usually there are no electrical changes.

Anyone know RocketChips next event?

I have thought about using Revo, but I am concerned that the EGR engine light will not be deleted.

Hi, what would "blocking the trouble codes" entail? Thanks!

We all know that Jeff is always tight up, but to fully understand why Jeff has little time to answer his e mails and his phone calls, and we can also get an idea of what he goes through,,,, he was at the PDX West Fest GTG on Aug 21-23, then he went to Big Apple GTG on Aug 29Th, then the TDI Fest came up on Sept 5th and he was there, now the Ashville GTG, and there may even be more other GTG that I am not aware that he may show up, Jeff is definitly on Demand.

It involves reading the ECU, staring at code for a while...changing some stuff, then flashing it back to the ECU. Repeat as neccesary :D

You can get an EGR delete tune that won't light the CEL depending on your local. But you won't pass OBD2 readiness as it needs to see some EGR flow regardless of the tune. Keep that in mind if you are in a region that plugs into the car during e-tests. OBD2 readiness can only be read by plugging into the car though.

EGR can be turned way down though, no CEL and you get OBD readiness for smog tests.
