RNS-315 NAV - MDI Slow?

Anyone else having this problem?

I have my first gen Ipod touch 32gb (with latest firmware) connected thru the MDI in the glove box and the interface seems to be as slow as paint drying. When I use the scroll wheel or the track selection on the Nav unit itself, it seems to respond a half second faster then using the steering wheel controls, but both seem to be about 5-10 seconds before responding, there is also an annoying 2-5 second pause between songs.

I looked around and found this was also a problem on the RNS-510, and there was a MDI specific patch released. Does anyone know if this would patch would work on the 315? Has anyone else noticed this on the RNS-315 model?

My RNS510 has this issue too. Where did you see about the patch? Can you provide a link? I assume this is a software patch for the car?

Assuming you are in South Carolina-USA, I don't think you have the RNS510 in your Jetta, unless you installed it yourself.

I think you are referring to the RCD510, which was the mid level unit that the TDI factory equipped unless you went the navigation package route.

I have seen a patch for the RNS510, but not the RCD510.

Thank you for letting me know that I am not alone though. Its clearly a software problem. Everything else about the unit (RNS315) is speedy and works great.

i have the IPOD classic 160G, no issues at all with my RNS-315. I do have issues if i plug my ipod in the golf's RCD-510 slow and freezes at times. I think the RNS-315 is lot faster unit.

when you change track with the controls on the steering wheel, the song changes instantly?

Thanks for the correction. Yeah, you aren't alone with the slow reaction time. It also misses the a second or two at the beginning of each song in a play list when it is playing them in sequence. It has great sound for a stock radio though, and I love the fact that I can attach my Ipod to it and control it it through the radio.

yep, and i have have 80G of music in the IPOD so lot of music in there. only time it takes 2-3 second is when i press the upfolder button and goes back to the main menu.

I honestly think it might be the IPOD and not the head unit.

I'd really like to edit my post!!!

Anyhow, UPDATE:

Turns out it was my Ipod that was causing the problems. I made a mistake in my first post my Ipod touch is a 2nd gen, 32gb. Not sure why the lag is there, I am going to wipe it and try again.

I used the MDI with my 5th gen. Ipod Nano and there was zero lag, no delay with any controls. I will still need to do some more testing to check for skipping or the pause between tracks. I will do that on monday on my way to work.

Update #2
Checked the pause between tracks, its still there and down to 1-3 seconds (if that), on both my Touch and Nano. SO Im going to call that one the head unit.

My Ipod Touch was wiped and factory reset, and now works just as good as my Nano, maybe a second difference when switching tracks.

Otherwise things seem to be much better, I can live with the minimal delay.

i only use a 16GB SD card. no delay at all. they do have 32GB and 64GB SD cards too for cheap, but i think there is a head unit limitation on the number of files/folders it can detect.

my wife has an iphone 4, so she could use the bluetooth connectivity (for music i believe). but first i need to teach her how to drive the 6MT :)
