I needed to vent. We special ordered a 2010 Jetta wagen and were scheduled to take delivery this week - just got done getting the loan arranged.

Dealer called this morning and told me the car was destroyed in a road accident outside Denver on it's way to Salt Lake. It was on a hauler so no one was hurt as far as I know.

Never even got to look at her :( . Looks like we're back to square one. I'm still in shock.

RIP white gold tan interior beauty.

I can't help but think the dealers wife walked in when the car arrived or some guy saw it and offered 5k above MSRP because his daughter had to have it.

Can't say I've ever heard of this happening. But like you say, either way there's not much I can do.

I'm afraid I may be in a similar boat. My dealer and I were expecting delivery on Tuesday - manifest said my car was on the delivery order, but no car. Finally found it was yanked from the carrier at the port with a "stop order". Not sure what this means, but I am guessing it is not good. :confused:Probably a QC problem.
Anyone know what a "stop order" is?

If it was stopped at port doesn't that mean the mexican border? Perhaps the cartel has infiltrated the vw factory and your car was packed with drugs and had to be pulled off the truck.;)

Definately sucks though regardless.

May be a similar situation to what happened with mine - evidently it was sitting right behind the haulers drive tires and they got diverted down a road with newly tared road-base. The result is a car that looks like NASA delivered it strapped atop the shuttle. Unrepairable. I'm sure if it showed up at port looking beaten up they would have pulled it.

Look on the bright side...It's better than taking delivery, driving it and then having it totaled. Trust me ;)

Only thing lost is time. :)

Good luck with the new one.

Nice combo...that's what I just bought. If it's any consolation, my cancelled order for White Gold/Cornsilk/6sp manual/Portos/MDI/mats at Commonwealth in Santa Ana, CA might still be available. It was built two weeks ago so it might be intransit right now. My new JSW is the same WG/Cornsilk but with the DSG. It was already at the port and I negotiated a much better deal for it last week.

I hope you don't really have to go back to square one...that would suck!

Don't fight the karma. It was probably in the same build/batch as the ones having High Pressure Fuel Pump failures.

You will surely have better luck on the next one.

Dealer wasn't able to find a another one with the same specs (White Gold, Corn Slk, DSG) so I ended up ordering another. We'll miss out on the sales tax write-off and possibly the tax rebate so that hurts quite a bit. My business would have allowed me to use both effectively.

The bright side is we have a another baby (milk fueled variety) arriving next month so we wouldn't have been driving the car much anyway. When the car arrives the baby will be 6 weeks old so we'll be ready to get out and enjoy it.

Yeah, the sales tax deduction is only for 2009, as far as I know. But you should still be able to get the $1300 tax credit in 2010, as long as there haven't been a certain number of TDI's already sold. I forget the number. But with the scant delivery of TDI's so far, I don't think you have anything to worry about there....

The $1300 tax credit will be around when you get your TDI.

From the IRS website: "Taxpayers may claim the full amount of the allowable credit up to the end of the first calendar quarter after the quarter in which the manufacturer records its sale of the 60,000th advanced lean-burn technology motor vehicle. For the second and third calendar quarters after the quarter in which the 60,000th vehicle is sold, taxpayers may claim 50 percent of the credit. For the fourth and fifth calendar quarters, taxpayers may claim 25 percent of the credit. No credit is allowed after the fifth quarter."

You may want to investigate a bit further. There should be paper work on the loss somewhere, either by the hauler, freight company, etc., somewhere,, somehow you car was insured during transit. It it was indeed totaled, there is paperwork. Do your due diligence. If in fact the car was sold to someone else and the did not honor your contact, you should be heading to the to file papers. Hold the stealership accountable.

Years ago, a stealership did this to my sister-in-law. She was a collection agent & was not a push over. As I remember it, she was a awarded $5k damages, and that was in the early 90's.

Do your due diligence. Demand paperwork. If in fact the car was destroyed, one would think that they would fast track you a replacement. From the outside looking in, you are being screwed, you just do not know it yet.

Bob, thanks for the advice. I have been doing just as you say. I called the bank and got the VIN the dealer gave them and am in the process of having a litigation support specialist (family) run a full check. I'm also contacting the dealer and making them aware that we had a contract since they took my down payment and I need to see the paperwork and picture to verify the car was damaged.

There were some holes in their story so I'm not taking it sitting down. Initially I was in shock when I spoke with them but since I've grown very skeptical of their story.

I'll let you know what I find out.

Update: So far everything has checked out exactly as they say. Additionally they're working with me to make up for loosing out on the sales tax write-off assuming we don't have the car/vin before the end-of-year deadline. Looks like I chose the right dealer but just got stuck with the wrong vehicle delivery guy. I'm not to concerned about it at this point especially since the early production models seem to be having fuel pressure and glow plug issues.
