I was trying to remove the rfid chip from my old key fob case and you guessed it. Shattered the glass surrounding it. I placed the broken chip into the new keyfob case and transfered my old key blade into the case also. When trying to use the key now the immobilzer shuts it down. My question is can I get just a new rfid chip and program it with VCDS?

As long as the chip you just replaced is OK. I need to program it with a. Vagtacho or your local locksmith should be able to reprogram it.
You cannot reprogram RFID chip with a VCDS, you can program the function buttons on your remote with VCDS

If it has NEVER been used in a different vehicle and you have the vehicle's SKC, yes, VCDS can match it.

RFID chips have a "one-way" security fuse in them which can be told to "burn"; once that is done it cannot be reset which is why you can't re-use one that was originally programmed for a different vehicle. Finding a new one with the correct frequency and such is the trick.

You need all the keys when you do the matching as you have to re-match the existing ones, which you can do as they already are "burnt" with the correct coding for that specific cluster.

Okay, I wasn't having much luck just trying to find the correct rfid chip or seeing if it was a replaceable item.
You can buy five of 'em for ~$10 at AliX.

Not too hard to a new one into an existing fob. Cheaper than buying a replacement fob and getting a key blade cut.

You have to have the 4-digit SKC from the cluster. If you don't there are multiple ways to get it (KWPTest being arguably the "safest and best" alternative at this point.)

To be accurate: kw1281test is the name, developed by a user here - and agreed: the safest and best (as in, not running the risk of installing some janky virus-riddled software on your computer), although requiring typing in command-line vs. clicking buttons in a GUI.

I've been looking for a video on how to use kw1281test to get my SKC. I guess I'm kinda dumb when it comes to this stuff. Step by step instructions I can follow on paper or a video pretty easily. If anyone has one please share.

Yep that's it. It requires a bit of thinky-do-ey.

A long time ago I risked the Tacho (in a VM, on a machine I had a bare load on and was willing to immediately wipe) and got the SKC for my car. It did indeed try to put about five hundred viruses on the machine..... so yeah. Kw1281test is clean, safe and works but you have to deal with the command line. The instructions at the link are correct and complete for getting the SKC, which is what you need to match keys with VCDS (4 digit code.) You have to be able to figure out what port the cable is on and similar (pretty-basic Windows stuff) and its a Win 10 or 11 thing. It absolutely does work; I've pulled a couple of other people's SKCs with it.

Doesn't matter how old it is, you still need a key to start it ;)

Of course immo delete is an option, kw1281test can do that too.
For sure. It's got 367,000 miles on it and still gets 40mpg +. It's a head turner. 🤣
I would rather delete the immo but still stunned on how to pull just the skc up.

If Your car's an Immo III, You're lookin' for an ID48 T6:

if U want it in 2/3days it's ~$8:

If U don't mind waiting a possible extra day or 2 U can get 5 for ~$18 from same seller...

Or do a search for ID48 T6 if that's not good enough...

Hope this helps, God Bless and Stay Safe,

Q: Just tell me how to get my SKC!
A: If you're running Windows 10/11 and have a VDO cluster: Download kw1281test, unzip it to some folder on your computer, install the driver for your cable and note what COM port it's using in Device Manager, open up a command prompt, CD to the folder containing kw1281test.exe and, assuming your cable is using COM1, TYPE: .\kw1281test.exe COM1 10400 17 GetSKC

I've tried this so many times my fingers are ready to fall off from typing. I know I have the VCP drivers set up right and the port is set to COM 2. I start with cd desktop in command prompt. Then I type in cd kw1281test-0.99.1-beta in the next line and it accepts it. Then the third line I type in .\kw1281test.exe COM2 10400 17 GetSKC After that it displays ********** is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
The file name on the kw1281test my desktop is kw1281test-0.99.1-beta I've tried that too in place of .exe My VCDS cable is Hex+Can. I sure wish someone was close to me or could make a step by step video on how to. I'm stumped.

Never used that handy tool, but done aplenty comand prompt operations. The error message sounds like it don't recognize the instruction.
Does the /. Need a space? [No backslash on my cellphone keyboard]

The executable should have an "exe" extension (e.g. {something}.exe) You don't need to type the ".exe" part but it doesn't hurt to do so, but if it doesn't have that extension you have the wrong file. If its in the directory you're in then it should run.

In the DOS world I think you need the .exe

First, I assume you are running Windows and you downloaded the correct .zip file:

After the two cd commands, type dir

You should see a line like this:

11/19/2024 05:54 PM 11,445,768 kw1281test.exe

That confirms you are in the directory containing the program file, in which case you can run it without the .\ or the .exe, i.e.

kw1281test COM2 10400 17 GetSKC
