1. Put your car in Netural,
2. Gently place the shifter in between N and D while pressing the brake pedal.
3. let go of your brake pedal and you will hear a click, with the brake pedal sign coming on.
4. when the light is lit, place it in D, then the brake sign will stay on, and the MFD will show a blinking D (or S mode or even in the +,-)
5. if you're on a hill... dont press the brakes but pull up that side brake.
6. REVV!! and you will hear a whole new different sound of you engine ;)

This is the safety option in your car.
We dont have a launch control in our dsg, but in the factory booklet, pg. 181. shows this feature.

Y on earth would you want that poor thing doing 5k rpm? Also even with launch control 0-60 times will still be mundane at best, just seems like a lot of unneeded wear and tear. On the flip side it's your car, it's your money and with enough mods and traction it could be interesting. Just don't get it though. Like when a ricer is all excited bc he is doing 0-60 " as fast as a gt" ......ok but it took you 8k in mods and sounds awful.

so are you just reving the engine without the metronics trying to shift or engage the clutch with no load on the engine?

hmph..

So negative guys.. im just saying. You probably tried to rev the engine when its in P. but gets locked at 2300-2500 rpm. this doesnt engage the clutch or anything. the tranny is totally disengaged. I dont know why on earth any one would use it as a launch control it will mess up the tranny 100%.

=/ I posted just because i didnt see anyone post about this way of putting the car in neutral.

Anyways... just because i posted a "dumb" topic (Which i think it is not because its still an option on our cars), its not that i hate my car and want to abuse it. its just new discoveries...

It has been my understanding that free revving an engine isn't good. 2K is one thing, but 5K I think is insane. If VW thought it was ok to have the engine free rev that high they would have put the limiter at 5K - not 2400+/-. And besides, doesn't an engine sound best at WOT under load?

I have my Fairlane with a loud exhaust and a great rumble. If I rev it just too listen to the music I rarely rev it over 2K RPM - and that's a rarity.

Too each their own.

I dont think Jettahighline has a point, other than letting us know its possible. if you want to rev the engine to 5K then go for it. If you don't then don't. But stop busting the guys balls because he posted its possible with our cars. :)

Way to washboard the cylinders, good job! No load and high rpm is awesome!...for excessive wear on internals.

Have you guys seen his new thread titled "Shifting your DSG Automatic into R at 60mph"? That makes quite a noise as well!
