I've just a bought a mk2 jetta 1.6td, the boost is turned up to 17 psi and the fuel to compensate aswell. I don't feel comfortable revving it past 3500 or so just because its a diesel and stuff, but I'm rly tempted to go past all the time. Any tips on mods to make the engine safer for high RPM or advice on a safe limit for RPM

I can't give you anything concrete, but off the top of my head, the RPM limit on those should be somewhere between 4.8-5.2k.... I'm sure it's listed in a manual somewhere.... you should still be safe to go +1k on what you're using and not have issues. (assuming all is well with the motor, etc)

There are just too many to list....
The older cars were geared fairly low, the non-turbo ones especially so. They needed to spin 4000 RPM just to cruise at higher highway speeds. You won't hurt it.
