Thanks everyone for your patience. I finally had a chance to mount the new version and test it out. Of course, having the extra canbus adapter is more complex than simple plug and play, since you are also tasked with mounting the canbus somewhere. I recommended to LasFit to make the wires a tiny bit longer which should provide greater flexibility for mounting. However, even with that limitation, I think I found a pretty good place to zip tie the canbus adapter, while still being able to tuck the connector inside the dome cover for dust and moisture protection. Since the cover had to be cut to allow wires through, I used some electrical tape to secure the dome from falling off over time as well as reduce the chance of moisture or dust ingress (dust -- specifically pollen -- is the worst offender in our area).
Now, to answer the question of whether this version corrected the bulb out warning - YES, IT HAS. There is no longer "self-test flickering" when the car is first turned on and there is no bulb error. The lights come on instantaneously without any difference from original version. From my limited testing, I don't even notice the canbus getting that warm, which means there is very little energy waste even with the canbus installed. Overall, despite extra work mounting the canbus, with my self-diagnosed "mild OCD", this is worth it versus having to see the error every day. See photos below:
First set of photos -- lights installed without the dome cover on driver side and with cover on passenger:
Driver side
Passenger side with done installed. Notice small cut I did with scissors to allow the wires out.
And the next set of photos is with my taping job to make this a more tight installation:
Driver side, taped with electrical tape.
Still driver side, but top view
Passenger side, with electrical tape
