New to TDIClub so wanted to say hi and share some info. Prompted by a new long commute with some traffic, I've decided to swap out a Subaru manual turbo wagon for something with similar utility but with an auto, better ride, and better economy. Passat TDI SEL Premium won out over a 2012 Camry Hybrid (a surprisingly nice drive vs older Camrys but not the right feature mix for me). Colonial of Medford MA happened to have my top color preference of Tungsten/Black already allocated for production, and I ordered it for what amounts to 400 over invoice. Sales guy said VW has made progress on their backlog and while it shows as arriving at the dealer the week of 4/30, he expects it will be here at least a week early.
My wife is from France and has been touting the benefits of diesel to me ever since we met. It's not dead quiet like a hybrid at a stoplight, but the initial torque, "real shifting", people consistently exceeding EPA highway estimates and the proven track record swayed me.
I owned a VW (81 Jetta) 25 years ago at college and it was so fun to drive. I'm looking forward to the new TDI!
