I installed a set of Koni FSD’s about 80k miles and 11 years ago on my on PD Sedan. I started noticing the car would loose it’s composure over bumpy or irregular roads and soft. There were no strut leaks, no bottoming out, abnormal tire wear or noticeable sag and the car performed pretty good at freeway speeds on smooth straight roads. The struts mount gap was there and the mounts were compressed. Today I changed out the fronts with the Koni FSD replacement, Special Active Strut. After driving with the Special Actives and comparing, the Koni’s had definitely lost their Mojo. I can’t complain considering the time and miles served by the FSD’s on some of So Cals horribly maintained streets and freeways. The car accelerates, stops and handles better all around with the new struts. The rears will have to wait as the rear bump stop had disintegrated and I have to wait for the replacement.

The Actives are really nice. I put them on my wife's Golf. Great ride (all things considered- these are economy cars) AND they firm up nicely when pushed.

I've got about 80k miles on my STRTs and they're still holding up. IF I ever change them out I'd go with the Actives: getting older and appreciate a little smoother ride.

After 11 years and 80K miles I think it's reasonable to expect some deterioration in performance. I recently replaced 130K mile Reds with a new set of Reds (I grabbed them when they went obsolete) in my Wagon and the improvement in ride and handling is dramatic, even though the old set appeared fine. These cars are so reliable and we put so many miles on them sometimes our expectations for component service life become unreasonable. If you want to keep the car driving like a newer car, it needs newer stuff sometimes.
