Just thought I'd let everyone know that you can reset the service interval reminder light (the little wrench) that comes on when your Pkg 1 car is due for an oil change without a trip to the dealer or a Vag-Com by following these steps:

1. With key off, press and hold the trip reset button.

2. Turn key to on but do not start.

3. While still holding trip reset, press the clock minute button. This resets the reminder.

I saw this on another site for cars equipped with MFD's and tried it on mine and sure enough, it worked.

Possibly dumb question, but I have searched & RTFM: How do you get the service reminder to display? I've never seen it. (Is this one of those things that got removed as a running production change, along with the trunk bins, auto wipers, auto head lamps, etc.?) Thanks.

It should come up for your 5000 mi service... starting at around the 3800 mile mark. I'd expect there is a way to disable it, and your dealer may have done so (or maybe forgot to enable it?). How many miles do you have? You might try the reset procedure at your next change just to see if it will trigger it.

I was a little surprised when my service indicator came on for a 15,000 mile service the other day... guess they were trying to get a little extra visit into the dealers. Guess I'll just reset it when it's up.

Thanks, only about 3300 miles, which explains it. On other vehicles I'm familiar with it can be displayed or comes on briefly at startup.

Service Reminder

Thanks for the info about resetting the service reminder. They forgot to reset mine the first time I got my oil changed and it was very annoying. Of course they said there wasn't a way to clear it unless they hooked it up to a machine. When you live 75 miles from the dealership it's not conveinent! I have another reminder light that comes on that no one can explain yet. After it flashes the little wrench with how many miles till the oil needs to be changed. It flashes the wrench with a circle beside it. It looks like the Mazda symbol...like a check mark inside the circle or something and it has 120 where the mileage would be. In 2 days it has stayed on 120 so apparently thats not about mileage. Please help if you have any info. Thanks!

It worked on mine also! There is another thread about Easter Eggs, this should qualify for that! Bad_Actor, Thanks for the heads up. :)

Now I have to wait 'til 10K to clear w/ Vag-Com!

When I pressed the trip reset ... the mileage initially went to zero. I was a little disgusted by that (being @ ~100 miles) ... but when I turned the switch, the ~100 came back ... finished the Easter-Egg procedure.

Me neither. I just hit 20K today and did my 20K service today. I've never seen the service reminder light?

After displaying the wrench with how many miles till service, the next to be displayed is how many days till service...think the circle is a clock or something.

I think it only displays that once each day though.

Pretty sure I saw that in the owner's manual, or at least something published by VW...yea, I sometimes read those things..lol

Is the service reminder mileage based on the 5k interval or.... I dropped the oil at the intitial 5k but I won't be resetting until today at 8500k so will the next reminder come on at 10k or 13500 miles?

Thanks for the procedure also.

I have a PKG 0 TDI, just did the first oil change and looked through the service manual and owners manual on how to reset the service indicator. the WRENCH. The first posting on this forum did the TRICK. Mine was about 86 miles over the 5000 change and the reset trick worked immediately. I guess it will start counting down a little off now? as I reset it past the exact 5000 mileage? I will see what happens but this saved me a lot of time and money going to the dealer to have them put it on a computer to do the same thing. I am going to check the Easter Egg section here as well.

13500 most likely. I reset mine after changing the oil at 5600. The reminder popped up again 600 miles late from the 10000 mile change.

2nd reminder

Well that 2nd indicator looks like a clock to me, but I'm clooless as to what it could mean. The "clock icon" (as I'll call it) doesn't seem to be changing, but I'll watch it a bit more closely this week. I'm right on schedule to hit my 5000 mile service this weekend. I'd be really interested to know what the 2nd reminder is actually trying to say. I could find basically nothing in the manual in regards to anything but the MFI cluster. Only thing that seemed close was the part that states it would tell you change interval in miles (I have 400 showing now) or days (I doubt this is true, I'm indicating 328).

Great news

Mine came on at about 5500 miles. I thought it was a service reminder. Thanks for the tip. yes, I changed the oil and filter. Took forever to get the "skid" plate off.

The clock is days remaining. This is based on the "you should change your oil once every year or 10,000 miles" principle.

Oil change

I hadn't seen anyone mention it yet, so thought I might as well. The skid plate is held on by 3 T30s along the back, 4 T25s on each side, and 1 T25 in the front middle.

Not sure if I'll do it every time, but I drained the oil cooler as well, uses the same size socket as the oil filter and is directly below the filter housing.

I liked the built in pour spout in the Elf jug, made it so I didn't have to dig out a funnel or anything.

I was pleasantly surprised to find the brake cooling ducts on there, I hadn't heard anyone mention those yet.
