Should I even bother trying to install this CV axle shaft I picked up from Autozone? The shaft is no where near the same size as the one in the car.

AutohausAZ is local, should I return it and order from them or ID parts?

In a pickle, daily driver down.

Yes! return it
I'm looking on AutohausAZ site but it doesn't say who makes them or type of bearings, maybe if real close go ask & check them out. You can't go wrong with IDParts
Looks like Autohaus takes & few days to ship & I think IDP will take just as long as location is in East Coast so maybe just put in AutoZone put till you get a better quality one from one of the other vendors or expedite shipping?
Or just change boot?

OE axles are hollow shaft on one side, aftermarket usually solid shaft both sides - but not necessarily weaker.

Aftermarket axles are pretty much guaranteed inferior to OE, but if my daily was down I would install what was available then rebuild my OE axles with new GKN joints and reinstall them when convenient.

Thanks guys, that's what I'm gonna do. I ordered a passenger side complete kit from ID parts, will return the Autozone unit.

Now if I can just figure out where the vacuum hoses go (I have the diagram, but it doesn't account for hoses that are connected to the device that's in the middle of the car as opposed to the one nearest the driver. Just installed a PD150 intake manifold with EGR delete, deleted egr cooler.

Funny, I only planned on installing the intake manifold this weekend. I felt a clunk in the steering, crawled under, well hello missing bushing in the passenger control arm. Got that off, axle out of the hub, just waiting on the parts I just ordered plus correct tools to remove the inner CV. Passenger control arm came off surprisingly easy, was definitely expecting a struggle there.
