Thanks, Frank...
I am patiently waiting to hear back from you as I must address my situation soon.

Now, minus the whole credit thing for my used cam (I'm doubting it is usable so I won't even look for it to be), is it fair to say that the kit (Colt cam and whatever else is needed for this job) will be $300 more than say, an OEM kit? I'm not sure what you charge for your mods to some of the parts. I'm just looking for a ballpark figure (if you can give one at the moment...if not, I'll just have to wait).

Also, I'm going to need several oil filters and would like to get a fuel filter from you as well.

Thanks again...

Schaeffers 9000 is the oil, I have been using it since it made its entrance some 5 to 6 years ago, Before that I was using the S7000, which is some excellent oil as well..I have been using the S7000 for 10 years now and have been pushing the S9000 through the shop, I use it in all the diesels, it respones very well in the 7.3 and 6L HEUI oil/fuel systems, and if it will stand up to hydraulic applications of 3000psi, then its gotten be good in the PD's..

Its in the moly baby..

The best way to receive a quote from me is to PM or Email your contact information. Please include:

Full Name
Physical Address
Phone Number
VIN
Year and Model
email address

Please include what your situation is and the build/ mod/ assemblies you are looking for. I'll respond with an estimate of parts for your particular needs.

Randy and I are on the same page with the oil. I'm very glad to rep them.

To rough out the pricing, the BEW or BRM Cam is $650, nitrided lifter set is $192, cam bearings $189, cam seal $5, cam and rocker engineered bolt set $50, engineered top bearing shells $50. Joe Gibbs assembly lube $2.99, Case of Joe Gibbs BR $86. I think the Schaeffer's 9000 5-40 is $5.75qt. Filters for the BRM are $8.70.

It's a bit under $1270.00.

Performed this job at DanG144's place Monday. The guy has been a savior for me this past month. Everything is in working order. 30 mins of ~2200 rpm (seemed to be the sweet spot my foot found for the 30 mins) with Joe Gibbs BR30. Changed oil/filter. Put another round of JG BR30 in and am currently running it now with about 200 miles or so on that oil. I had thoughts of running it until I reached 110k miles to keep my OCI intervals at even amount, but may go ahead and change it out this weekend (depending if I go to farm or not) as I will probably have about 400-500 miles on it by then.

The car feels like it has more response/power than the old cam...I'm guessing being worn a bit has that effect.

I have some pics to post, but can not access the TDI pic forum or photobucket from work comp, so I will try to post tonight.

I plan on using Pentosin 5w40 and adding ZDDP (thinking about 1/2 bottle) in the future, but may end up switching to Mobil 1 TDT. Got the Pentosin for $33/5L and bought total of 10L so I will use it first.

Hope this guy holds up longer than the stock cam.

Dan says I may need new MAF as I'm not reaching peak something or other. I am guilty of using the K&N filter before reading this site.

edit.....also, I don't think VW spec'd oil has ever been used in my car. I was looking at some receipts (I knew they weren't using 505.01) for s and g's, and there is no telling what brand oil they used over the life of this car. I thought they started out with Mobil 1 5W30, but I think they ended up using Kendal Synthetic 5W30 for the majority. Sometimes only one quart was charged to me and not much consistency in pricing (anywhere from $4.50 to $8.50 per quart). This process of cam change was started at 107,750 miles. Most of my driving is in 6th gear. Not sure if that means anything to y'all, but that's about all the info I have.

I think you can clean the MAF, at least on most cars you can. I'm not sure about VW. Always use stock filter.

I've heard with this MAF, cleaning is not reliable. I'm not having any real issues so I'm not sure if I will do this now, but knowing I could get a bit more power is pretty enticing.

It's hard to tell from photos but did the undamaged lifters surface still remain black?

schoolsout, FWIW, your cam, lifters, and bearings look a lot like mine from this last summer.

Sounds like you are in good shape. Trust me, we'll all be watching the variables and trying to get these cams to last a LOT longer than they are.

Now that Dan has taught me how to take a peek at the cam, I will be checking more often. What oil did you decide to run?

Henrick, I had an extra pump, but we decided that damage wasn't bad enough to warrant replacing it.

Thanks for sharing the info.

BTW, did you use Frank's modified or stock cam bearings?

It would be interesting to see a PD with most miles on replacement cam (be it stock, Colt Cams modified, with or without Frank's modded bearings)...

Frank's modified top bearings, but did not do any drilling into head. He says that is the way to go, but I just wasn't willing to do that just yet.
