Hello, I recently replaced the cam on my 2006 Jetta BRM after it catastrophically failed on a cross-country trip. A valve was also damaged but I removed the head and had it fully checked for damages and the faulty valve replaced.

I did the break-in step for the new came which is purchased from Cascade. I did the oil change after the required at 500 miles using break-in oil. When i had the motor drained I removed the valve cover and inspected the lobes and lifters and I am somewhat worried by what I saw and wanted a second opinion.

The images are not great because my phone would not focus on the lifters.

Intact Lifter

I am worried because it appears that a few of the lifters are becoming dished already and their grey outer layer is already removed. Furthermore, it appears on of the lobes is already getting and odd wear line. The last link is of an intact lifter where the entire top of it is still gray.

Is this something to worry about? what steps can I take to remedy it?

Frank06 is the expert, hopefully he’ll chime in. What brand Cam was installed? I think they sell a couple different ones.

Personally I’d just keep an eye on it.
