Replace DEF tank?

Heya TDI'ers, So I'm getting that stinkin' error for 'reductant tank heater and sensor'. I YouTubed replacing it and since it looks like more than I want to handle (drop exhaust, drop DEF tank), I took it to a shop. They're telling me that to replace that 'cannister' that is the heater and sensor, they also have to replace the DEF reservoir. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The reservoir itself doesn't leak. Is that legit or is it a way to soak a customer with an upcharge? Thanks in advance for any insight. - Tony in Texas

Remember reading years ago the heater was sold separately...but at some point I remember hearing that they stopped selling the parts separately.
I would assume it was to reduce parts count to save $$.
Do check...it's possible the situation has changed

Roger. It appears one can buy just the “can” which twists into the top of the reservoir without having to purchase the reservoir.
