I have been trying to remove the front emblem on my JSw, but think I may have cracked a few clips.

Does anyone know the proper way of doing it? Do I need to remove the front grille? If so, how is that done?

if your looking at it, twist it to the left, should twist a quarter turn and pull right out. the first time may be tough, give it one good hard turn and out it will come.

be VERY careful. I would not do it with the grille still on. Preferably take off the grille and release the tabs from behind while doing the twist, otherwise YOU WILL BREAK THEM.

OK, so maybe I'm asking the obvious, but how do you remove the grill?
Easy. Open hood. Two torx screws toward the sides of the grill in front of the radiator, unscrew from the top. Two more torx screws under the front bumper, below and to either of where the front license plate is (or would go, if you don't have one); unscrew from the front. Then you basically just pull it off from the top, tip it forward and pull it up and out from under the bumper cover. I think that there are also 2 little plastic clips on the top, close to the center, it's easy to see how they release. With a torx screwdriver, it ought to take you about 5 minutes or less, and much less after you've done it once.

Sorry I don't have a convenient picture.

Have Fun!

I'm going to thread-jack a bit here as you answered part of my question which is how to get the front emblem off... Now -- how do I get the rear removed? I would like to paint them matte black... Thanks in advance.

Is this also true for my 2012 golf. I just ordered my glossy black front emblem.
