Jetta Release

I was in for an oil change today and asked the sales manager when he estimated the arrival of the Jetta diesels. He thinks that fall of 2008 is looking more likely than Spring, when he originally expected them:mad:

I would assume through their sales channels. His information regarding product has been pretty accurate in the past.

Size Comparison: 2003 Jetta Wagon to 2008 Jetta Sportwagen

I understand the new JettaSportwagen is really a Golf/Rabbit extended by 14 inches.

Does anyone have dimensions of the new JettaSportwagon to compare to the 2003-4-5- Jetta wagon?

It seems to me, at best, the new JettaSportwagen would barely be the size of the outgoing wagon. I was hoping for a larger wagon.

My sources aren't getting any reception on that channel's frequency...

They're still going with April/May and I'm thinking June, just because.

Sorry for the bandwidth, but these are GREAT and FUN schools my club runs. I'll be instructing for the tenth year....

Registration for Winter Driving Schools is now open! These events filled up before we saw the first snow of last winter so don’t hesitate!!
The North Atlantic Audi Club will host a pair of two-day Winter Driving Schools (WDS) on Jan 26-27 and Feb 23-24, 2008. These two-day schools include a brief classroom session covering the important fundamentals of winter driving, including the importance of accelerating, braking, weight transfer, and steering on ice and snow. Participants then navigate a closed-course at Team O’Neil’s Car Control Center (http://www.team-oneil.com) in Dalton, New Hampshire, specially designed for winter driving instruction. Experienced instructors ride along as students pilot their own vehicles through a proven curriculum that includes obstacle courses designed to simulate real-world accident avoidance, emergency braking and skid-control. Participants will gain invaluable winter driving experience and improve their ability to react quickly and confidently to real-world driving situations frequently encountered in winter driving.
We are thrilled to have the headquarters for the event at the beautiful Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa again this year. This is an amazing resort and we have negotiated a great rate for our event. For more information on the Mountain View Grand, please see: http://www.mountainviewgrand.com. If you would like to stay at the Mountain View Grand Hotel please call them IMMEDIATELY upon receiving confirmation of your registration. Instructions for getting the NAAC rate will be in your confirmation email. There are a very limited number of spaces available on a first come, first serve basis and they are likely to sell out BEFORE the end of November.

The banquets for WDS will also be held at the Mountain View Grand. We are still working on the menu but you may be asked to decide on potential entrée options when registering (subject to change!). In any case, this is a fun time to mingle with your fellow students and instructors. The meal is being provided at a rate that is below the cost we have negotiated.

Registration is open and powered by motorsportreg.com at http://www.naaclub.motorsportreg.com/.

Can’t make WDS? Try one of these events:

q The October edition of our monthly social dinners will be on Tuesday, October 30th at 6:45PM at Jake’s Roadhouse (http://www.jakes-bbq.com) in Waltham, MA.
q Our friends at Audi of Burlington (the former Pass & Weisz location) will be helping us host a Winter Car Prep clinic on November 15th at 6:00PM. For more information, please see www.naaclub.org.

FWIW, just read in the new VW Driver magazine this week that the expected return of the diesel is May 2008.

my wife is due to give birth to our first child in the last week of March. I was hoping to get in a new 08 jetta or sport wagon by then (need to ditch my aging 2 door 99 New Beetle). I've Been waiting patiently for the past year+ already, now they talking fall of 08? If they keep dragging their feet, I may have to go Hybrid (don't want to.......but I may have no choice, especially since I enjoyed driving the Camry Hybrid when I rented it a few weeks back). It looks like the 09 Honda Accord diesel may even get here before the Jetta.

Page 20 in white, referred to as a 2008... who knows when it was proofed for press since all recent stuff says 2009. You really need to check the forums for info before asking questions like these as they've been covered and covered again.

to be honest, I can't remember now if it was a Vortex member or a
TDIClub member that snapped the pic and posted it. I think it was taken
in Florida.
I'm really feelin' the white as well.:D

It's growing on me in white....
-ground effects kit
-17" wheels
-suspension is compressed due to being chained to the trailer

These things are probably partly responsible for this car looking a bit slicker.

I do like the white, though, too.

I wonder if we'll be getting chrome around the windows. Some of the pictures have it, some don't. Maybe that's part of the 'decontenting' to make it cheaper?

I hope it still has the chrome around windows. The Jettas without the chrome window trim look too much like a corolla.

Like the old saying goes:

"Chrome won't get you home,"

but it looks like chrome accents remain on SE and SEL while the "S" gets no chrome window trim... see pics of Laser Blue in previous post, then look at SE's in their inventory....

The SE or SEL (likely because it has the 17" Avignon wheels and body colored rear valence) in the "Driver Magazine" photos also has chrome accents on the windows....

Don't know if anyone cares but I was trying to see what a Sportwagen might look like in the Laser Blue Metallic and finally came up with shots of a 2008 sedan (lots of pics):
I don't know if its Laser Blue, but the one that I saw at the 2007 NYIAS was some sort of blue:

Another "Updated" Guess at SW TDI Pricing...

QSHIPWAGON said:
Here's my somewhat edumacated guess on the pricing of the TDI Wagon at MSRP when it arrives:

All figures from VW 2008 Order Guide dated 7/16/2007 unless with a ?

Jetta Sedan in SEL Trim (top trim) w/6 spd Tiptronic: $22,825
Destination Charge: $ 640
Add for Diesel $ 1,200?
Add for Side Rear Airbags $ 350
Add for Panoramic Sunroof (reg sunroof included
on Jetta SE and SEL sedans but this is different) $ 1,000?
Add for Variant Bodystyle $ 1,000?
Add $1000 for things unknown $ 1,000?

DSG will ONLY be available in the Diesel and there is no 2.0T being offered in the sedan (GLI Only).

This adds up to $28,015 MSRP and maybe $1500 less at invoice. Granted, you never know what's up VW's sleeve, but there's even $1000 cushion in here for bad guesses. This would be a pretty well loaded up Sportwagon less DVD navigation which adds $1800 at retail. I'd love to hear any arguments for or against my reasoning.

Paul
MSRP:

Jetta Sedan in SEL (Top Trim) w/6spd Tip $23,900
Destination Charge included above
Add for Diesel $ 2,000
Add for Variant/Wag(e)n $ 1,500
Add for Rear Airbags $ 350
Add for Panoramic Roof $ 1,000
Add for Ipod Adaptor $ 144
Add for Aluminum Pedals (whatever) $ 155
Add for Monster Mats and Splash Guards $ 279

Total = $29,328

Where are the changes?
SEL in top trim including destination, up $435
Variant Body Style, up $500
Diesel, up $800
"My Accesories", added and up $578
Things unknown, discarded, down $1000

Total, up $1,313
Throw out "My Accesories" and Total is up $735

New guess of MSRP w/o "My Accesories" is $28,750

My guess at lowest possible MSRP = $23,000 with $1200 in profit over invoice so you might be able to make a deal now and drive one out the door for $22,300 at $500 over invoice. This would be an SE Model with stick, and no other options.

In short, my price at a similar $500 over invoice (figuring $1800 profit for the loaded SEL vs. $1200 profit for the SE w/o options) would be $5728 extra for 17 inch wheels, leather steering wheel with controls, upgraded dash, premium audio, body colored front and rear valences, ipod adaptor, rear (thorax) air bags, full mat kit, panoramic sun roof, a pretty pedal kit, DSG, and increased resale value. Is that a lot? Hmmm, maybe, but we spend a lot of time in the car and it represents a 25% increase over the SE without these goodies to put it in perspective.

Still hoping DSG is not an upcharge from the TIP and is included in the SEL package Diesels which "I believe" may be "standard" in the SEL package as it is in the gas Jettas (Tip is standard). The panoramic roof option is ALL a guess, but I think it will be a standalone and at a premium of $750-$1000.

I'm thinking that this is all still "about" $1500-$1800 over invoice.

My price? I think I'm looking at $28,528 which is a whole lot of dough until you look at what else is out there and mpg. At about 45MPG and about 30K miles a year and at about $3 a gallon (gas or diesel) this will effectively save my family $170+ a month in fuel costs over a car that averages roughly half the MPG (our Audi A6) or essentially half of the $16K I expect to finance over 48 mos.

At $4 a gallon savings per month increase to $225... and at $6.60 a gallon the car makes its own payments. Sure, laugh it up funny man, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see a price like that sometime before 2012. A depressing thought indeed......

Paul,
I'm not convinced that Campanella White would get the chrome treatment on the Se and SEL.
Attn: VW, my SE, CW Sportwagen must come with blacked out trim,
similar to the GLI treatment. http://www.flickr.com/photos/megavites/1800774487/

Anyone know more about the rabbit date yet? I see on page 19~21 it is mentioned, but does anyone have anything confirmed yet?

Does anyone have any more info about the emissions this will put out compared to previous models?

If you go to VW.com and start "building" a Jetta you'll see that the SE and SEL come with chrome window trim under the "compare" button. Further, if you select Campy White there is no mention of a chrome delete. Of course, this is 2007, it's not a wagon, and I don't work for VW. YMMV.

Ok diesel at the pump 3.29 regular 2.62, are they now charging by BTUs?

The price of diesel fuel is sure to steer many would be diesel buyers to buy gassers . I think a lot of folks will simply NOT want a vehicle that uses a more expensive fuel even though overall mileage is better.

........... This means I'll have a better selection when I get my new TDI!
