The part number for the film on the rear bumper for the 2009 Sportwagen is: 1k9061197 (about $50-$60)
It is not the same as the one for the sedan.
There is also a brushed stainless or aluminum part that can be seen here:
Any suggestions on where to get something more utilitarian? I'm thinking black rubber like on the bumper of a minivan or SUV. The metal one looks cool, but I need something for the dogs and that slippery metal won't work.

I don't really know, but I'm thinking you could "rubberize" the metal one with a product like this:

http://paint-and-supplies.hardwarestore.com/49-265-rubberized-plastic-coating.aspx

Says it can be applied to anything that paint can be applied to... I hear what you're saying though, re: the pooch.

You might also try some searches for marine applications... I'm thinking non-slip coatings for boat decks, or even the same material with adhesive for stair treads...that could be cut and applied to the metal part: http://www.kofflersales.com/Product.asp?cid=4&pid=36

Lots of solutions...

painted body side mouldings

frugality said:
They are black only. I believe they come with a slightly textured finish. I don't believe they are made to be painted. If they were paintable they'd come with a smooth, glossy surface, and would not look good unpainted.

Body-colored side molding is one of those items that fell to the 'de-
contenting' axe to keep prices down.
I got painted side mouldings from zetaproducts.net. I think they were $129 with shipping. Made by Dawn enterprize, same ones quoted $399 installed at a local shop. Same ones fit sedans or sportwagens and come painted to match. These are very nice, come with instructions, and are easy to put on. I will try to get my wife to help me get a photo on here since I have no clue how.

So my impatience has got me in a little pickle. I had an order (refundable deposit) from a AZ dealer. With no word and very little information coming from VW, I decided to jump on a chance offer by Chris F. (3193) on a JSW in the Philly area. No sooner (a week) after I lay down my deposit to get a car in Nov rather than next year, than the dealer from AZ calls and says my car will arrive Jan 5th. So I tried canceling the order from Philly, but was told my deposit was non-refundable. What a bummer, should've checked that up front. Honestly wasn't trying to play gamesmanship with these guys. Just bites because of VW's screwed up ordering process. So now I'll be spending my turkey day driving back from PA, and not get the "exact" car we wanted. Either way I am excited to get a car, but the dealer from AZ was good to me so I don't want to leave him hanging so if anybody wants to take my order (I'll have to check" It is a Blue Graphite, Art Grey, 6spM, 4x4 rear airbags and Pano roof. I was never told what the final price was other than MSRP only, but as you may have read from some of JVance's posts the AZ dealers have some local tax issues and high doc fees.
Just a thought, but you should see if the PA dealer would consider doing a swap with your AZ dealer. At least that way you will get a car closer to what you are looking for. If not, another option might be checking with the PA dealer to see if they will do a swap with Millenium VW in Somerville NJ. Chris Bianc there has an order up for a Blue Graphite, Art Grey, 6MT, Big Roof, 17" (don't recall if it has the airbags, ipod, or both). At least that is close to what your AZ dealer was ordering for you, and a closer swap for them if they aren't willing to talk to the AZ dealer.

Does anyone have info on the pre-painted Votex side skirts for the JSW?
One dealer I called said right now they only come primed.

Actually, here's what I've decided to do and I'll update you when I'm done. When I get the stainless piece in I'm calling a distributor for Venture Shield (3M clear urethane) and having him cut me a piece to apply OVER the stainless. This will provide a non-slip surface of sorts and protect even the stainless piece. When the 3M gets sufficiently beat up over the course of time, I'll peel it off and re-install a new piece. I'll let you know my cost, the distributors phone number, and how it works out when I'm done in after I get the car and do it. Should be a few weeks.

Danger, Will Robinson!

Carrying $X,000 in cash in a airport (X can vary, I think) can open you/it up to asset forfeiture (the money is presumed guilty, because it "likely" came from drug sales/laundering -- thank the war on drugs for that one). The Feds will gladly give you a receipt for it, and you can then try to go through the lengthy process to prove where it came from, and maybe get [some of] it back.

Also, the auto dealer will be required by law to report the large cash transaction to the feds. Not that it's against the law to pay cash, but it will put you on a list somewhere for possible further scrutinizing/monitoring.

Yes, paying cash would be fun, but beware the potential consequences!

Got the wire transfer sorted. Should happen today. No way I'm carrying cash or a teller's check on a plane. I don't want to wind up in a coffin-sized cell in Syria getting beaten every day.

Just received a link from VW.com congratulating me on my purchase of a JSW TDi, and if we would be interested in taking some time to fill out a survey. My wife and I are crafting the responses now. This should make for good fodder for someone.
Has anyone else received one of these emails?
Yea, I got one of these emails a few days ago -- haven't yet taken the time to fill it out.

So regarding the wheels, my JSW was already at the dealer (I didn't special order it) with regular 16" wheels, and I told them I wanted to upgrade to the gray goals ($1350 option), they had a set in the Parts department or from another vehicle, not sure which. Anyway, are you all saying that I should have gotten the 16" wheels from the dealer?

Honestly, I'm not sure just what I'd do with them except have them sit in the garage and have the wife keep asking me "what are you going to do with those tires that are just taking up space in here?". Are you wanting the second/original 16" ones just to try and sell them, or what?

Oh, and for unsub1, here's a close-up of the gray/anthracite goals as well as a wide shot:

Andy, most in the Northern climes will use them to mount winter tires, or sell them to recoup some of the cost of the upgrade. You paid for them, so you may as well get to do with them as you see fit (unless the NTO box was checked that is).

Maybe I'm missing the point. Go to Ford, Chevy, Toyota, Honda etc ..
You don't get the original wheels if you pay for upgraded wheels

Right, but in those cases, they are treating it as a factory upgrade just as VW does for the Avignon's. When you get the upgraded wheels (other than the Avignons), VW is sending the car into the country with Ditto's on the car. They then either remove those wheels and stash them in a warehouse somewhere at the port, or they put them in the trunk to give to the customer. I'd imagine they then route them back to the factory if the NTO box is checked for reuse on the next car down the line. When you pay Ford or Chevy for an upgraded set of wheels, they are making the change in the factory and you are only paying for the difference in cost of the base wheel and the upgraded wheel. The base wheels never touch the car and the manufacturer isn't absorbing any cost for them.

The easiest comparison to make is the protection kit. My JSW has the protection kit, but it doesn't mean they didn't send me the regular floormats too.

Yes you should get the Ditto's if you paid $1350 for the 17" wheels AND TIRES. I ordered a car with that option and "someone" tried to say they aren't included. After taking info off this site and someone at the dealer contacting the zone rep.,it was agreed delivery should include both sets.

Part 2 in the seemingly never-ending saga

Talked to salesman after my ordered JSW arrived. I ordered the silver goal 17" wheels{$1350 option-$900 more than 17" Avignon's} with the understanding through info on Edmunds.com and the very helpful Chris[3193] that there would be a set of 16" Dittos in the rear of the car when delivered. When there were none and my wife inquired why [after hearing two salesmen discussing the potential problem-the sales mgr. said that there was no second set of wheels and tires and even if there were-we wouldn't get them-the dealership would! My wife came back with-"we ordered the car and we're paying for it-so the wheels should be ours.Sales manager came back with "no cars leave our dealership with two sets of wheels and tires." He said that's it-take it or leave it-he made absolutely no attempt to work the problem out. I'm sorry-he obviously needs the car more than I do! My ex-car now is for for sale at Stuart VW. I don't think I'll be looking to purchase a car from them again in my lifetime unless my wife gets a MAJOR apology for some seriously rude treatment! So for future purchasers-beware of the wheel options or maybe just beware of the dealers.
This only gets better! My wife drops off the helpful info on this site at the dealer to show them the $1350 silver goal 17" wheel option includes the 16" Dittos. About noon-she gets a call from "someone" at the dealer saying her wheels "mysteriously" showed back up and were in the back of her new car.
The "gentleman" we were dealing with called and half-heartedly acknowleged HE had jumped through hoops and found us 16" Dittos because he wanted to do the right thing even though we shouldn't have neccessarily have gotten them. My wife wasn't falling for that one! After all he had put us through and the fact that she had brought cash for the car twice to make the deal happen-we felt he should waive the $499 dealer fee. He said he'd gotten us a $100 gift certicate to Carabba's and the dealer fee stands. My wife said no and he said he was putting the car out on the lot for sale. We went by the dealership after I got off work and the first thing he said was "your wife and I don't connect." Again I told him for what he's put us through he should waive dealer fees. He agreed to half and I said all. Then he started back in verbally at my wife. I couldn't believe this guy was standing here verbally harassing my wife screaming at her we didn't appreciate "all " he'd done for us-so I got nose to nose with him and asked if he wanted to sell this car. He said "whatever," so I turned around and walked back to my other car saying to him "enjoy your new car!"

to each his own, but considering that JSW arent easy to come by and you are getting both sets of wheels and only paying 1/2 the doc fee, i saw suck it up and enjoy the new wagon and never return to that dealer again.

It's just a personal thing, but I never buy anything from someone who yells at me or my wife. Maybe your values are different.

I know this should probably be on the get together list, but my Audi Club is having an extremely laid back social dinner at 6:45 at the Redhook Brewery in Portsmouth, NH on November 20th. Anyone who is interested should come by to spend an hour or two with a fairly mature Audi crowd and enjoy some good conversation, brews, and dinner. It's pay as you go and COMPLETELY informal. Love to meet some of you folks in the northeast. RSVP by PM'ing me and I'll send a reminder out as well. All are welcome.

2012 Passat SE 6-manual
Just received a call from Vacaville(CA) VW and that a TDI Sportwagen with manual and sunroof was coming in in 2 weeks. I could have it for MSRP plus $1995. This was my email back to him:

Good evening Keith,
I appreciate the call about the upcoming Platinum Gray TDI Sportwagen with manual transmission and sunroof. In my initial conversation with Dale Hanson way back in July of this year, Dale and I came to the understanding that I could place an order for a TDI Sportwagen without a deposit and that I could purchase the ordered vehicle for MSRP. In placing the order, I confirmed that the price would be for MSRP. Later on, I was advised that my order was cancelled or dumped from the computer for whatever reason.
I realize that you have called about various vehicles arriving and offering me the opportunity to purchase and if I recall correctly, they were mostly Silver(gag) or DSG(my last automatic cost me $7000). I am really seeking a Platinum Gray or Blue Graphite or Laser Blue with a 6-speed manual and no sunroof.
You called today and advised me that you have a manual, sunroof, TDI Sportwagen coming in and you were letting me know if I wanted it. When I asked the price, I was taken aback by the MSRP+$1995.
I am willing to purchase what I said I wanted for MSRP, which is what I was told that I could do in July of this year. I am not willing to pay 8% over MSRP on a vehicle that has a price already inflated by $1400 because of an option that I did not want from the beginning. I am disappointed that you insist on inflating the price of your vehicles $1995 over what the company that you represent says it should be sold for. The last TDI I purchased, I bought brand new for less than MSRP. Why in the world do you think I would be willing to pay $2000 over MSRP(plus $1400 for an unwanted option)???
I am pretty sure that you are going to say that all the other dealers are charging that amount or more for TDI's. When I first contacted your dealership, I was told that you don't do that so that is why I stayed in contact with the hopes that someday, my vehicle would show up and I could drive it away. Seems like your dealership is pretty much like many of the other dealerships that believe that they do not make enough on the sale of a new automoblie. You know, some people call these places "Stealerships"....I would like to think that your owner's pricing policies are subject to change in the name of good customer relations.
Let me know when the policies change and I just might come back for my Platinum Gray TDI Sportwagen with 6-speed manual transmission and NO Panoramic Sunroof.

Sincerely,
Noel Dennis

Seems VW of Vacaville is no different from any other dealer with a TDI in their inventory. My hopes were dashed today and I am bummed.
N Dennis

Hopefully your post was not a cut and paste, and in the actual email you spelled stealership correctly.

I had not thought of that option, although when Jvance gave up his ordered car through Chapman, I called my salesperson (Also with Chapman only Tucson) and tried to get him to trade for the car. He was unsuccessful (same Dealership and only 1hr away), so I highly doubt they would be willing to ship all the way from PA to AZ (Tried to get them to car ship to NM, or load it on a carrier, no go, must show up in person). So I've bought my tickets, I was just venting a little frustration at my impatience, and BTW I am to lazy to try all of that leg work again. I've talked to numerous salespeople (maybe not as many as most on this board) and most are unwilling to help unless it helps them. Two exceptions, Chris Farnham and the salesmen from Tucson I was talking to (Len Luskin), but even he would not go that far.
Thanks anyway for the advice.

Those sound nice and even the black ones might work on my silver (A little contrast) but as noted in a previous post will they actually work being installed so low on the car. So a I guess $211 is a little rich to pay someone to put these things on, unless I want them covered under the warranty.

Also, does anyone have good links/sites (US only) for aftermarket products for Jettas or JSWs'. I have looked through most of the posts and you see a few scattered here and there, and my google searches have not been very fruitful.

Sorry to dredge up a much talked about topic again, but I just need some clarification on the fog light issue. As stated in my previous post of a quote around $558 for those to be installed by the dealer. Also saw a post claiming $799. And other posts stating that these fog lights "need/should" be integrated with a fancy switch and with the on-board computer. Now being a Jeep guy I've installed a few fog lights and most of the time I just bolted on a bumper routed some wire, cut a hole, installed a switch and BAM your done. Am I missing something with this jetta, even getting the ones that fit exactly in the right spot (I've seen $350 posted somewhere) is it more complicated than running some wire to a switch. Finally, am I to assume "integrated" means the "right" switch (euro?) and computer interface. So, from what I've seen posted before $558 might not be a bad price for fogs

Thanks

I'd take them, a second set is perfect for snow tires. Something I'm sure you don't need to worry about.

Royal Motor Sales in San Francisco has had some posts up on Craigslist recently, advertising TDI JSWs at MSRP. They've got a black/beige one /w roof on there right now -- doesn't say if it's manual or auto:

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/ctd/909703559.html

A few days ago they had posted a silver one with manual, also at MSRP. I haven't called about any of them -- I suppose these ads could be teasers that were "Sold just a few minutes before you called!"

I'm holding out for a Salsa Red manual. I suspect JSW availability will improve quite a bit over the next couple of months. By all accounts, new car sales are very slow right now, so I think dealers will find themselves with a lot of inventory on hand after all of us enthusiasts who are ready to buy have made our purchases. The economic situation, coupled with the holidays (historically a slow time for dealers) could make late December a great time to make a deal.
