Congratulations on hooking that fish. Now all you have to do is land it!TDi_JettaWagEn said:So I took everyone's advice and called around. Many Internet searches, emails, and phone calls later, I got a responce from South Shore VW in Hanover Mass. They offered me a white JSW w/ Manual Trans, Sunroof, and Mat Kit. I threw my deposit at them and am expecting a Nov 11th delivery.
That being said... There are 2 JSWs coming to Manchester VW in the next week or so (was supposed to be Monday). One Red, One Blue, both manuals. After the right-of-refusal list, they are up for grabs!
I am now very glad I persisted after my first deal folded.
A couple of nights ago my wife told me the Subaru was running really rough and had thrown a CEL. It had been a little gutless under 2400rpm the past couple of weeks. I backed it out of the garage and I could tell right away something was wrong. Then it made a loud clattering - I killed the engine, looked under the hood and it had thrown the alternator belt. I got the belt back on and it immediately threw it again and the accessory belt. Loosened up the idler pulley and the alternator and pulled everything off, and the crankshaft pulley was loose. I tried tightening it up with a 7/8 inch socket and reassembling everything, but it spun loose immediately. Apparently you need a 5 foot long cheater bar and a 3/4 inch driver to properly tighten that sucker.
So yesterday I called a tow truck and had it taken to the garage. They tell me the timing gear / crankshaft interface is wasted. My options are a new crankshaft at $1500 in a car that is charitably worth $5000, or spotweld everything back together for maybe $300. Guess which option I'm going for.
I've been spending on average a new car payment every month on this car for the past year. It's high time it was kicked to the curb. Come on Sportwagen!
