Gave it back to VW

So I took everyone's advice and called around. Many Internet searches, emails, and phone calls later, I got a responce from South Shore VW in Hanover Mass. They offered me a white JSW w/ Manual Trans, Sunroof, and Mat Kit. I threw my deposit at them and am expecting a Nov 11th delivery. :)

That being said... There are 2 JSWs coming to Manchester VW in the next week or so (was supposed to be Monday). One Red, One Blue, both manuals. After the right-of-refusal list, they are up for grabs!
Congratulations on hooking that fish. Now all you have to do is land it!

I am now very glad I persisted after my first deal folded.

A couple of nights ago my wife told me the Subaru was running really rough and had thrown a CEL. It had been a little gutless under 2400rpm the past couple of weeks. I backed it out of the garage and I could tell right away something was wrong. Then it made a loud clattering - I killed the engine, looked under the hood and it had thrown the alternator belt. I got the belt back on and it immediately threw it again and the accessory belt. Loosened up the idler pulley and the alternator and pulled everything off, and the crankshaft pulley was loose. I tried tightening it up with a 7/8 inch socket and reassembling everything, but it spun loose immediately. Apparently you need a 5 foot long cheater bar and a 3/4 inch driver to properly tighten that sucker.

So yesterday I called a tow truck and had it taken to the garage. They tell me the timing gear / crankshaft interface is wasted. My options are a new crankshaft at $1500 in a car that is charitably worth $5000, or spotweld everything back together for maybe $300. Guess which option I'm going for.

I've been spending on average a new car payment every month on this car for the past year. It's high time it was kicked to the curb. Come on Sportwagen!

Fogs work just fine using the replacement dash switch - no need to involve the computer - on my JSW. The switch includes its own indicator light, and yes, the complete installation goes for $700 plus. There is a very well-written and illustrated step-by-step installation guide that my dealership used and left in the car.
Yeah, I would love to see this too. If you could scan it and send me a copy I would really appreciate it.

I'm curious as to the ETA on a car that just got picked off from the factory order bank... IE, what is the ACTUAL status right now because if it just left the IS Order Bank and went to Factory Order Bank I didn't think an ETA was yet available from the VW Hub. Can you provide more details or ask your dealer to do so?
i'll be going to the dealer saturday to test-drive a Passat CC 4mo, and when I"m there, I'll ask them to pull up the order

I wonder what this means for the retrofitting of the MFSW....has anyone attempted this yet? I was hoping this could be one of my first modifications. And I've seen the walkthrough over on VWVortex/JettaMKV, but was wondering if anyone here had actually done it...
OK, you got me on this one. :) What does MFSW stand for? I know what a MFS is, but when we go from TLAs to FLAs I get out of my depth.

None now. Former: 2011 335d, 2010 Jetta TDI, 2003 Jetta TDI Wagon. 99.5 Jetta TDI, 98 NB TDI, 3 different black 96 Passat TDI wagons.
Saw my first one locally, at the Walnut Creek dealer. Red, DSG. $28k plus $2k "market adjustment". I'm unimpressed, unlike the Passat CC - man is that thing gorgeous for a 4 door.

Has anyone with a TDI JSW figured out which XM module we need as a replacement for the integrated Sirius?

TDI JSWs only come in one flavor w/ a couple of options available to add on - like pano roof, rear airbags, nav system, etc.

Ugh. I'm still waiting for one to come up in Wilmington. The first one they offered was fully loaded almost and priced at around $28K. I feel like I'm going to do more of the legwork here. I'm not sure how aggressive my guy I've been working with is being. I am hoping for a blue graphite. I'm not picky... I prefer the pano, manual.. other than that, I don't really care. We test drove a TDI sedan and it was smoooooooth... But I want the wagon!!! ANy of you NC people had any luck? Thanks for the HIckory link. I'll check it out.

They'll be integrating themselves in a couple of months. Why go to the expense/trouble? I only hope they preserve my favorite XM channels.

foglight installation

For those of you interested in copies of the installation instructions, I'm afraid it would take me awhile to get up to speed on the household scanner - attached to the household artist's laptop. However, if you're comfortable to pm me your snail mail, I'm willing to photocopy & mail the first few comers, starting tomorrow when I have access to the office copier.

Thanks! I'm pretty good with French & Spanish, but haven't learned teenager. Is your translator available for occasional duty? The U.N. may have a need.

Even if they arrive at one channel lineup (unlikely considering that they are charging more for "best of the other network" packages), they will still be using two satellites and two different compression algorithms. For the genre of music that I listen to (country), the Sirius channel is very compressed and jangly while XM offers better fidelity and more channels. They also have CSPAN.

Oh yeah - and I have a 5-year prepay with XM that I would rather not give up (~$6/mo IIRC). :D

When I saw this msg yesterday I was really tempted,, but I do not want that roof, neither the color.
There were a few TDI JSWagens available in the last few weeks at various bay area dealers, but talk about money!! I got an e-mail for another black/black roof ipod for - hold your breath - 33k+ ! -etc., etc. more like stories. Team VW of Hayward said 2000.- over MSRP last word - conversation over.

here is my latest e-mail conversation from Dublin VW:__________________

Call VW Customer Care and tell them that you'd love to buy a VW but not at those markups. VW's interest is to get as many of these out the door as they can - they don't make any extra money after the dealer sells the car. I've heard that they're taking some small actions - a letter has gone out to dealers warning them to cut the crap out, and also dealers that don't gouge are getting extra cars in their allotments.
