I compromised on color as well but that is all. It had every option I wanted. I'd wait for the pano. Funny though, the color I wanted was the one you (TDIGirl) settled on. How do you like it now? What color did you want?
I am pretty tall (6'4" or so), I like the pano in concept but it just wasn't working for me in terms of head space. My Wagen does not have one and this is great for me. From info on this forum and my own personal observations it seems that pano is easier to get.

My first car (an 89 Diesel Jetta) had no sunroof and I wanted to cut a hole in it the whole time I owned it, until I bought my Passat. I would get what you want so you don't regret it later.

On the other hand, I could have been perfectly happy without the sunroofs in my last two cars.

Sit in one first - this is not a typical sunroof - if you haven't already, preferably in full sunlight with the shade closed. I did, and hated it, as did my wife.

- Happy owner of a non-pano, $1300 cheaper, cooler in the summer/warmer in the winter, silver JSW. (And you know what, I didn't get my first choice color, either, but who knows how much longer I'd have waited. Compromise - it's something we acquisitive Americans might learn to live with.)

Anyway, hope you're happy with whatever you decide on.

Hang in there

Finally got through to the dealer (Prime VW in Saco, Maine), and looks like our car has been picked up by the factory from the ORDER BANK!!

However, ETA is now the week of 1.29.09, so I will get it next year. It doesn't have a VIN yet, but it should happen soon.

Why don't they just make more? I was hoping for 08 delivery, but next year? Might as well wait for the the Outback Diesel or TSX Diesel...
Far as I can tell, Maine is last on the priority list. (I'm told mine ended up here by mistake!) Hang on, it's worth the wait.

I'm curious as to the ETA on a car that just got picked off from the factory order bank... IE, what is the ACTUAL status right now because if it just left the IS Order Bank and went to Factory Order Bank I didn't think an ETA was yet available from the VW Hub. Can you provide more details or ask your dealer to do so?

So I was told by my dealer (Manchester VW) that 2 SportWagens should be available this week... They will both be BASE MODELS. IE Manual transmissions (which I want), but NOTHING ELSE! I have had my heart set on that pano-roof for a while now... Is it really worth waiting forever or is there another way? Should I just take the cars as they are?
If you can wait, I would.... if you trust Manchester to do the right thing...I'd be curious to know how Manchester has been doing. I walked in there a long time ago when I was looking for a dealer to place my order with and I got really bad vibes... but I could be wrong, happens all the time.

Euro market is more profitable perhaps?

Speedway in Indy (MSRP) said they were towards the end of the wait list (take w/grain of salt). The other dealers in Indy wouldn't even talk to me their lists were so long.
Forget the Cincy and Dayton market. Too small with very limited allocation.
Columbus, you could try Byers and possibly MAG (midwest auto group).
I heard Ganley in Cleveland may be helpful. Still waiting on a response from them myself.
I was number 3 a couple months ago, and got their first JSW last week. Paid MSRP. Tom Wood's wait list is way too long, Dreyer and Reibold said I'd be number 4 a month ago.

Mostly I wanted beige interior with red or white, which did not seem to be available in the first wave. The Blue Graphite is very nice and I'm happy with that, but the dark interior took some getting used to. I'm probably going to have tint put on the windows in the spring, and I've never even considered that on a car before (and I grew up in south Georgia!). No point in doing the tint right away as we go into the cold seasons.

Not only does the tint help to keep your car cooler (and look cooler IMO) but it also blocks UV rays which can be harmful to your interior. Most good tints come w/ a lifetime warranty so If you're going to drop the coin anyway, why wait?

I just got back from the doctor where I had three little precancerous thingies frozen off of me. I'm going for the tint. I'm getting the Honda tinted this week if I can, and even though the Subaru is going out the door I'm tempted to get it tinted too.

Nothing like slamming the barn door shut as you watch the ass-end of the horse disappear over a distant hill. Now excuse me while I smear SPF 50 on my monitor.

Jvance, auto glass absorbs most UV as is, at least in the UVA. I don't think the lack of tint is a big factor. And, although it's a good idea not to expose yourself to any more direct sunlight than necessary (for D production, for example), I understand that most of the damage we lighter-skinned suffer comes from exposure at an early age. But the tinting is still a good idea to keep temps down.

A caution for those of you planning to put fog lights on your JSW. I ordered OEM fog lights, switch and wiring harness for my 09 JSW TDI. After spending the better part of a lifetime getting them installed and wired up, I went to program the computer using VAG-COM only to find out that this car has a "midline" computer, despite having the "highline" display. The midline computer cannot operate fogs or xenon headlights. :(

This is interesting because fogs are a factory option on the website. I guess they install a highline computer if you choose that option. I also wonder what a dealer would say if you asked to have fogs added to the car? No??

I agree that you should wait. I have turned down two cars so far because they were not one of the colors I wanted. I know of a possible silver car and possible red car both manuals with sunroof coming into the Boston area if you are interested. I have turned them both down since I want a Laser Blue car or possibly a Grey car.

My first car (an 89 Diesel Jetta) had no sunroof and I wanted to cut a hole in it the whole time I owned it, until I bought my Passat. I would get what you want so you don't regret it later.

I am very interrested! Please send me the info if possible! BTW, if any are coming within 300 miles of New Hampshire I'd be happy to make the drive! All I want is a Manual with a sunroof, dont care about other options. :D

I would imagine that this is nothing more then a reflash of the computer software. Wonder if the dealer would do this for you.

That's not cool, since i'm planning on doing the fogs and xenons to mine when I get mine.
What option(s) will mine have to have in order to have the highline computer?

It's my understanding (from reading here and on VWVortex) that the computer is physically different. :(

I would like to know the answer to this as well. Since, to my knowledge, no TDIs have shipped with fogs yet, all existing units will have the midline computer and would be incapable of driving the fogs off if it. Instead, you would have to wire up a relay (or buy a harness with the relay wired into it) to operate the fogs directly from the dash switch. You will loose the "bulb out" indicator on the dash by going this route.

I don't know if there is something similar for the Xenons. I've been getting my information from the VWVoirtex FAQs here, so you might want to look around those.

You can also apparently purchase the better computer module but it's not cheap.

If you haven't purchased your JSW yet, you should be able to order it through the website (or perhaps through a dealer) built-to-order with fogs installed which will, out of necessity, include a highline computer. From reports in this thread, though, it might take a while to get your car that way.

If anyone reading this thread has more info on the different computer modules or JSW foglights, please weigh in.

'85 Audi 5000 TD - totaled '92. 2009 Jetta sedan, DSG, salsa red/anthracite, sunroof, all else stock.
I believe a couple of people have already had fogs installed, though those were in sedans if I remember correctly. The sedan has the midline CECM, which prevents an easy install of the xenons and fogs. The fogs is the first upgrade I planned so I was keen to know what CECM came in these new TDIs. The first ones out have been scanned with VAGCOM and confirm the midline. I asked my dealer about the foglights and their service department quoted $700, which includes the Euroswitch, about $200 of which is labor. This is one upgrade that I personally think would be worth doing through the dealer so you don't have to mess with relays or buying a highline CECM (which adds over a couple hundred to the bill).

Fogs work just fine using the replacement dash switch - no need to involve the computer - on my JSW. The switch includes its own indicator light, and yes, the complete installation goes for $700 plus. There is a very well-written and illustrated step-by-step installation guide that my dealership used and left in the car.

Can you scan and make this available? I have the switch, but it plugs into the CECM so all I get is the indicator light and not triggering of the fogs. I was under the impression that using a relay was the only other option but I would love to find out otherwise.

I wonder what this means for the retrofitting of the MFSW....has anyone attempted this yet? I was hoping this could be one of my first modifications. And I've seen the walkthrough over on VWVortex/JettaMKV, but was wondering if anyone here had actually done it...

Got word last week my ordered TDI made it into Brunswick Port; just waiting to hear when it get's to the dealership in Savannah. I'll probably be the first to have a TDI in the area.

So I took everyone's advice and called around. Many Internet searches, emails, and phone calls later, I got a responce from South Shore VW in Hanover Mass. They offered me a white JSW w/ Manual Trans, Sunroof, and Mat Kit. I threw my deposit at them and am expecting a Nov 11th delivery. :)

That being said... There are 2 JSWs coming to Manchester VW in the next week or so (was supposed to be Monday). One Red, One Blue, both manuals. After the right-of-refusal list, they are up for grabs!
