Refilling Adblue for 3.0 TDI. How does your cap open?

Hello all, I've got an Audi A7 TDI and needed a free adblue refill due to the emissions recall. Audi came out saying they need to replace my Adblue filler cap since it just spins in place when they went to open it up. They wanted $114 for the cap and labor. I told them I'll take it home and take it off.

I stopped by the side of the road, opened my tool set. The cap does spin freely, but I managed to open it by pressing inward and torquing. The same manner as a medicine bottle, gotta press down then turn. Does everyone have the same free spinning cap?

I had difficulty removing DEF filler cap last year. The cap is kind of two-piece: if the inner part gets stuck (hardened fluid perhaps), the outer piece just clicks and turns. The nearest Audi dealer was quite helpful by phone. Hot water on the cap and plumber's grips got it off.

same thing happened to me. I read this post and poured a cup of hot water over the cap. I twisted the cap 90 degrees and poured some more water. It started opening. Rinsed out the cap and the thread on the filler with a napkin. Now it spins smooth as butter. Will have to remember this in 10,000 miles. Thanks for posting!
