Well , Ive posted this in a couple other threads I think. Im a Redneck by the way. South Texas has the worst drivers in the Nation. Not only in my opinion but I believe its a statistical fact in some poll somewhere. Probably an Insurance poll.

Crack Head Rednecks down here between Rockport and Corpus Christi and other Third World Indigent's just cant seem to to prevent things from falling off their truck or flying out of their truck. Ive seen everything from large appliances, like refrigerators, stoves , freezers , spare tires, street lights , hitches, cinder blocks , large softball size pieces of aggregate.

4x4's, 2x4's trees, branches , logs, airplane wings, power lines , coolers, BBQ grills , galvanized roofing panels, street signs, scissor jacks, gravel and aggregate everywhere.

Potholes are pretty common everywhere . Sinkholes are common here. Texas Monthly magazine called Corpus Christi a Third World Country that reminded them of Cuba in the 60's, haha. Needless to say the City of Corpus pulled their advertising from the Mag.

Why just today on my way to work today in the dark I ran over some unidentified large 3x 4x 5ft piece of plastic or metal at 70mph I could not avoid. Right under the right front tire and right side of the vehicle. I slowed to 65mph cause I thought I was gonna have two flat tires. Now on this stretch of highway its the Nueces Bridge over the bay then the Harbor Bridge which is about a 5-7 mile stretch over bridges and water. So I was concerned, you have a flat or car trouble here you've got big problems risking life and limb night or day. Turns out I was good, till my Turbo didnt kick in. So I thought my Intercooler got trashed, cause thats where the impact was. A brief inspection I saw no damage . Five hours later Turbos kicking in, but then it didnt . I have to look more closely. This was a wake up call . I just put a new A/C compressor in. That is so exposed to damage and debri. Time for an aluminum skid . On the way home I got whacked by a piece of metal that flew out from underneath the car in front of me !

I think Louisiana drivers are far $hittier, but yeah, there are a lot of bad drivers here. Especially people from out west who don't know what these signs mean:

I wouldn't drive out here WITHOUT an aluminum skidplate. Especially when I've ran over dead coons, deer, foxes. Rabbits don't do much (and if I have a bag handy, those get scooped up for the dogs). I got lucky two weeks ago - the one day I took my F-450 out, I ran over a deer that was literally sitting in the middle of a farm to market road, and then had a doe T-bone my trailer (the dogs are still munching on what's leftover from it).

At the start of COVID, I ran over a mattress that came loose off 1604 in San Anton, and several years ago, someone's pickup bed liner smacked into my JSW up by Cleburne. People do NOT know how to tie things down. Don't get me started on the number of people I've seen with a round bale in their pickup with NO straps!

Last time i drove through Texas, i saw burnt utility trailer carcasses every 30 miles or so. It seems they don't know their towed speed ratings either.
Something about hooking up a trailer to a truck then its yeah dog lets drive 90mph Im a trucker now! As stuff is flying out of it!

Yeah I know what you mean." Left Lane for passing only". I encounter this situation almost daily . Three lanes of traffic across the bridges. Theres always some Hay Hole driving in the left lane doing 55mph blocking traffic for miles. Everybody is changing lanes trying to get past .
Now normally Im a very conservative law abiding driver. However 95% of the drivers blocking the lanes and not paying attention to anything around them are on their phone or texting , which is usually the case. So when I see this and get around them , I whip in front of them cut em off and hit the brakes causing them to slam on their brakes then I speed away when my Turbo is working ! This gets their attention and they are at a loss as to what just happened . Its fun! I did this to an oil field truck hauling pipe twice, They must have thought I was crazy cause for thirty miles after that they wouldnt get near me . Do not try this at home or attempt to duplicate these stunts . Do so at your own risk

Towing speed out here is whatever the posted speed limit is. Like on SH-130, which is a toll road that goes from Luling (35 miles-ish east of San Anton) to Austin, the speed limit is 85mph - highest in the US. And yes, I've seen semi's doing 80-85. I usually stay at 80mph if I'm towing a trailer, but not towing, I'll keep cruise control at 93. Fastest I've gone? There were some fast cars in a caravan - Lamborghini, Porsche, a Nissan Juke R, GTI and an Audi. I was in a Cadillac XTS rental. Figured what the hell, so I followed them, since we were going the same direction. 120mph for like 25 miles. That was fun!

Now in CA, I usually try to keep my towing at 75mph or less, but if radar picks up CHP, I'll bump it down to like 47.

The traffic laws don't override the laws of physics, and how much speed and load the wheel bearings and tires can withstand.
I don't remember what these tires are rated for. The crappy 6 ply the trailer came with were rated for 81mph IIRC. The wheel bearings are brand new, because I just replaced them on my last trip to CA in March. That job sucked with my arm, that's since healed up. New axles, plus I checked that they were lubed up with my grease gun. I also run with trailer brakes, which make a HUGE difference. Now if I didn't have trailer brakes, I wouldn't be going that fast, unless it were a smaller trailer and I knew its characteristics.

Dude, I've seen some truckers hauling some kind of liquid (probably refinery trucks) hauling @ss doing 85 or so down I-10 between El Paso and Kerrville. Makes me wonder about their tunes/mods, because you see some light coal rolling while they're flying up a grade faster than everyone else! I hate to imagine what those EGTs look like!

So you're one of those.

You do your childish stunt and leave miles of stop and go reacting to your little game where it was at least it was doing 55 before. And you call him a Hay Hole.

What a Tool.

I meant a pickup hooking up a trailer. Well they are drilling like crazy in West Texas , the Midland , Odessa area and the Permian Basin. Not sure if The Eagle Ford Shale Play intersects with the Permian Basin. Wanna hear a cool song . Its by John Baumann hes a Texas songwriter and musician. The song is called The Eagle Ford Shale Song . Just go on YouTube and you will find it. Every word wrings true.

Back in the day, a buddy of mine was driving his old Ram down a dark deserted road, and some pssed off guy in a much smaller car passed him up and slammed on his brakes. Apparently Ram guy was driving too slow or whatever. He stepped on the gas, ran the little bastard into a ditch, and kept going.

Heavy Pipe Hauler has multiple plausible explanations for why he might have "taken his eyes off the road for half a second". Yeah, maybe his insurance rates will take a hit, but you can't enjoy big a payout from a wheelchair or coffin.

Believe me, I've seen some crazy $hit and people that have NO business towing anything. Or I laugh when I see an F-150 towing some POS Harbor Freight trailer with tiny 12" tires that look like they belong on a handcart, doing 70mph.

My girlfriend loves Texas country and got a kick out of the lyrics. I used to know a gal who HATED me calling San Antonio, "San Antone." So I would do it more just to spite her, because that's we rural folk call it - San Antone.

You know what'd be really nice? Seeing the county sheriffs and DPS actually being more prudent handing out misdemeanors to those who linger in the passing lane and ain't passing. If I see someone doing that and it's late at night, I'll just keep my high beams on, until they get the hint and merge back to the right. Or... TxDOT can start making bilingual signs - "Carril izquierdo sólo para rebasar," which means left lane for passing only in Spanish.

No he was on his phone. No ones gonna get hurt . It might even save lives . Besides they could run into a wall or another car and kill somebody . Im just trying to keep people from crashing into me. . Not my fault their texting in the fast lane swerving all over the road ??? On this very stretch of highway a woman was texting passed me doing 70mph and hit the center divider then made the next exit . Im sure her car was totaled. Is it my fault their texting and not driving?
So your one of those what? I dont text and drive or even talk on my phone . So if you say Im one of those your right. Texting and driving kills people Im just giving them a little friendly reminder . Well the Texas State Highway Sign says Welcome to Texas , Drive Friendly - the Texas Way. Just trying to make people feel at home. Now whats wrong with that ?

Im particular about some of the vehicles I do this maneuver on. Mainly I need to be able to out run them. Because whats worse then getting in an accident is being hit by small arms fire . You think Im crazy? Everyone down South Texas way has cannons in their vehicle. I could get hurt!

My personal favorite is when on an interstate with two lanes. For shots & giggles let's say it's on 81 in Virginia, 70 mph limit. A semi in the right lane is going 60. The one behind him is going 60.5. Right as I'm about to pass up both at around 80, second truck pulls into the left lane to "pass" the first. It takes a couple miles, as now we are going up a hill. Meanwhile, 6,000 other cars are now stacked up behind this pair of trucks. Ten minutes later, the pass is completed. Finally. But in three miles, the same situation plays itself out again. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Alot of those trucks are governed thats why
Yeah so why bother passing the guy that’s going .5 slower than you?! If you can’t pass him in a minute or two without traffic backing up for miles behind you then there’s no point. It’s retarded, it’s a hazard and disrupts traffic to an extreme degree.
Yes it bugs me. 😂

Yep that’s frustrating. And you can’t even brake-check the guy later or you’ll just be another bug on his grill lol

Because time is money and if your taking something cross country or a long distance that .5 adds up. I agree its a PITA though

1000 miles at 60.0mph takes 16h 40min
at 60.5mph it takes 16h 32min

It isn't about money. They're just ashholes. If it was about money, he would draft the 60.0 truck and pocket the fuel savings, and spend 8 fewer minutes doing whatever he does with his next lot lizard. Or maybe he IS the lot lizard, and he'll work 8 minutes faster.

Zak99b5,

Ah yes......route 81 in the Shenandoah Valley. You are absolutely correct: heavy truck traffic and it takes MILES for one semi to pass another......if they ever do.
