I wanted to post my satisfaction with the Redline Diesel Fuel Catalyst product. I wanted to use a fuel system cleaner that also benefited performance and this one works well. During the recent warm weather in the Northeast I was getting record miles per tank using this additive along with my favorite BP Station (Exit 18 Paulsboro/Clarksboro exit on I-295. I want to break the 700 miles per tank which I have not reached with my 2006.5 TDI Limited Diesel Edition. My former 2004 5-Speed manual TDI (rest in peace - destroyed in accident) would reach 725 consistently in Hwy/City combo driving. Has any one else used this product with successful results?

Over the years I've used it, it's one of the top 5 additives. Quiets the engine down, less lag, more go.

This is one of my favorite additives. I have good mpg records using and not using this additive and I always pick up at least a couple miles per gallon when this is in the tank. I use 4 oz / 12 gallons. Wish I could find it a little less expensive source. I normally buy a case of 12 at Am_zon.com so if anyone has found a good price with shipping let me know

I like this product along with the rest of Redline lubricants. They are all top notch, so it doesn't surprise me that my fuel system troubles have been non existant.

I added 6 oz when I filled up a few days ago (15 gallons of fuel). Very impressed with the results. I'd forgotten how good this stuff was. :D

(This ratio of 12 oz to 30 gallons is listed as the max effect dose [cetane, but also cleaning etc])

Been using this the past 2-3 tanks, 1-2oz per tank. The white paper in the tech section on their site says "40% improvement over untreated Diesel" in the lubricity department. They say about 12oz/100g (about 1.7oz/14g) gives the full lubricity improvement and 1-3 cetane points, while 12oz/30g (about 5.6oz/14g) would give 3-5 cetane, IIRC. Sounds like similar stuff to the Opti-Lube Summer, (though it has no cetane improver) where you need a bit over 1 oz/tank to do the lubricity job.

I wish there were an updated Spicer report.. I noticed the #3 best item on that list seems NLA, and Redline and others didn't make it to the testing or weren't available yet.

Have you noticed any significant changes in your CR? Quieter idle? What about MPG figures? I'm contemplating running this or Opti-Lube XPD in my '10.

Hard to say... Possibly a bit smoother in idle. I've been tracking my MPG, but it varies enough to make it hard to say. That, and I haven't been doing tanks without vs tanks with to easily see. Gotta watch out for the Placebo Effect in these things... ;)

Lubricity, of course, I have no idea.

I have a bit of "clatter" just off idle, more so when cold, that has seemed to increase in recent months, before the RedLine. (bought the car used with 10.2K on it, now have over 15.5K) Not sure how normal that is, but since the RedLine, it's seeming a bit quieter.

Doesn't the MPG's go up in warmer weather anyway?

Not really. I seem to get the most MPG's when the temp is in the 50's and 60's. When the extreme summer heat hits (90+) performance and efficiency goes south.

I use Opti-Lube XPD.
I have just finished my first 32oz bottle.

The almost immediate effect was the engine seemed to run quieter.

There are too many variables to really gauge any mileage or performance gains.

1) Bought car in Oct/Nov so winter blend diesel-which gives lower mileage.
2) Engine break in period, I now have 11K on the odometer.
3) Have seen a mileage increase - is this due to the much warmer weather?
4) Are winter diesel blends now gone from fuel stations?
5) Been careful about driving mostly 65-68 MPH on HWY to work.
6) I do very little city driving.
7) I started using Optilube XPD about 2 months ago.

My mileage over the last 3 tanks has gone up, so it's hard to say what's responsible for the increase...I'll see what happens this spring/summer.
I'm open to using another additive as it seems Optilube XPD might cost more.
than Redline.

What about the DPF? any idea if this is an issue? potential for clogging?
Anyone with a 2009/2010 TDI who has used Redline long term?

Any clean diesel operators have any issues with the particulate filter clogging using additives?
I'm at 6700 miles and have used an additive every tank. Mostly XPD, but three or four tanks on Schaeffer's. I do have a fair amount of highway miles, but I've never had a regen cycle so I'm pretty sure my DPF is doing fine.

You've never HEARD or noticed a regen, but you better hope they're happening!:p

No, I think I have enough highway miles at high speed that the exhaust gas temps are high enough to clean without a regen being triggered by the sensor. the point being I've used additive since day one and have no evidence on early or frequent clogging of the DPF.

6,700 miles=40-50 regens regardless what you think you know. Hook up VCDS and see.

OK. I'll put it this way, the little light has never come on.:D Remember, my post was in answer to the question of issues with DPF filter clogging due to additives. I use an additive and my filter and system are working fine in 6700 miles, so no, I don't have any issues.

Only 6700 miles. At 50K or 100K miles it could be different...

Opps a Touareg! It may have a regen light. My wifes Touareg has never regened either..but its a V-8. One thing buying a T-reg I would buy the extended warranty!
Most easy engine repairs require pulling the engine or did in previous years.

6700 miles is not enough miles to determine if additives harm the DPF or not.
Of course not, but CAG1shirt asked if any clean diesel operators had any issues. I have one so I answered. Save for the V10, 2009 was the first model year for clean diesels so I doubt many have put on enough miles to definitively answer this question.
