Rear window spray deflector

It has been a dirty, rainy winter in Spokane, and in driving the Golf TDI I find that it very rapidly accumulates mud spray on the rear window, requiring essentially a constant use of the wiper and frequent washer spraying to have any visibility. Our SUV (a '96 Landcruiser) has a rear wind deflector that almost completely solves that issue, and I remember that the Golf website showed an option for a rear spoiler, that I believe was dealer installed. Has anyone used this and is it a solution?

Lip style spoilers & rear splash guards don't address the issue.

That's why we have rear wipers & plenty of washer fluid (It's horrible with salt on the roads from snow/ice)

I think (guess) that the spoiler improves the aerodynamics, and therefore the fuel economy. If you installed the deflector from the SUV there would be a significant loss of economy.

last week i had dealer put mud flaps on all four wheels. Big difference in how much road spray gets on rear window and hatch. They work well. $200 installed. dealer job because wheels have to come off and flaps must be screwed on.
