Spray some penetrating fluid on there a couple times for a few hours before. I did that and mine came out with no issue.

Yeah man, I know that fight, hours on end! Penetrating oil and a breaker bar did it for me. They were a really really stubborn!

Caliper carrier bolts

Volks:

When I replaced the brake pads and rotors on my '06 I had to go to a local stealership to get the replacement 12 point socket-bolts. The parts counter guy described the bolts as being "Tighter than a bull's ass", and he was right. I don't see how you can get the brake rotor off without removing the carrier because it's a very tight clearance without much wiggle room. Also, Did anyone find a torque spec for the wheel bearing center-bolt?

I pulled out my Bentley manual and according to the manual the rear wheel retaining bolt is torqued to 180Nm (133ft-lbs)+ ½ turn (180°). Talk about "tighter than a Bull's ass"!

Top two bolts are a b**ch to get out. I would suggest using a 450 degree wrench to persuade them to move. Just changed my DS rear with 325,000. Very stubborn.

Note: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=301053&page=2 they recommend a new bolt with it so I bought one. Save yourself the $5.45 it came in the box with the hub.
I know part of this thread is several years old but...I'm ordering the rear bearings from MJMAutohaus; it's the same part number that others say comes with the bolt & cover but when I e-mailed and asked MJMAutohaus, they said it ships "exactly as pictured on our site" & there's no bolt in the picture. I am ordering two so I'd rather not end up with a couple extra bolts & covers if I don't need them.
From MJMAUTOHAUS.com, all rights to them:

Hmmm, I asked on their site but still haven't heard back yet.
Has anyone ordered from them? Do the bearing come with bolt & cap?
I ended up calling them; they were going to order a couple in & check. I never connected with them again. I ended up ordering them (still the FAG brand) from another company I've dealt with before, Pelican Parts, & they did come with a new bolt & dust-cap. Both sides done & she's incredibly quieter now...woohoo!

What is the proper sequence of tightening the rear bearing on these cars?

I recall seeing some information that the bearing should be tightened while being loaded. So you do the initial tightening of the bearing to some torque then install the wheel and lower the car. After that, you do the final tightening.

Anyone willing to check that in a repair manual and report back? This should be relevant for rear bearings...

Thanks.
