I noticed yesterday morning that the rear running lights were not on when my wife dropped me off at the train. I checked the fuses and bulbs and all are good. Anyone have any suggestions on were to look for the fix?

Are you sure that she wasn't running in DRL mode? (headlights-yes, taillights-no)

I see people doing this all the time....

I verified that the lights were not working with the head lights turned on.

The front parking lights work? License plate lamps OK?

Sure the bulbs aren't burnt out

I'ld also recommend to check the bulbs again, since the fuses are one per side for the tail, front and left/right side marker lights. To have both off would involved perhaps have to two circuts with something wrong. Fuse #22/23 if I recall. At least on the '01 and '03. Don't know if the '05 in your sig is the same.

Thanks Jettawreck,

I'll double check everything again. All other lights are operational.

i had same problem found short

If it's a Jetta sedan, my left taillights were out due to a
short in the wiring.

The short was located in the front fender well, underneath the
plastic lining. The wire to the parking light had come loose and was
touching ground.

fyi: the taillights are on a different circuit than the brake and turn signal
lights.

if you can get your right taillights running (or left, for that matter) you can if need be run a wire from one side to the other. Use the trailer light connectors on the back side of the bracket holding the lamps

there are three electrical male prongs there. tiny female connectors are needed
to utilize them. flip the bracket over and you can identify the hot and ground you need
