Rear Defog / Frost Not Working..

Hello all,

Did a search on this issue for this forum and came up with someone having issues with their heated mirrors, so new thread...

I live in Southern Ontario and we got a blast of winter this evening when driving home from Stratford after a 18km hike with friends.

So the car is cold and full of warm bodies exhaling warm air. The windows steam up and eventually the front window's clear. The rear passenger door windows stay fogged up, but this does not bother me as a diver.

I turn on the de-fog for the rear window and the window does not clear and i have very poor visibility out the back which is not good when driving in a snow storm. As we have had a pretty mild winter this year in Ont., this is the first time that I have really had to use the rear window defroster / defogger. The warming electrical lines embedded in the window were not clearing anything and I am pretty sure that they are not working at all, although not sure how to confirm this.

Much later the rear window did clear, but this was 50min later when the entire interior of the car had warmed.

Has anyone else had an issue with the rear defrost?

Any helpful replies are appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Cheers.

For what it is worth, my rear defroster in the rear window (2014 Passat TDI) doesn't work either, but I did not notice it until recently. I live in south Texas so it's no big deal.

Thanks anyway. I am hoping that it is just a blown fuse that needs replacement. Texas, sounds like a warm place....

Yes,especially in the southern parts. Mild winters, usually no snow or long freeze spells. Living in Canada, you need all the help you can get in the winter.

Judging by the lack of responses to this post, I assume that: a) no one has had an issue with the rear defroster not working or b) "y'all" live southern US.

Checked fuses and could not detect anything out of the usual. I have 15,000km service coming up in about 800km's so i'll have the dealer look at it. Hopefully an easy fix and still under warranty I would imagine. Least they gave us built in block heaters....

One side of my rear defroster works great but the other side does not. It doesn't defrost evenly, so one side will still be fuzzy when the other is clear. No idea why that is happening. Not sure if it's related to your issue though. It's definitely not a fuse problem.

My rear defroster does absolutely nothing to clear the window, so, I am hoping that it is something as simple as a blown fuse.

Your issue, as you stated, is definitely not a fuse issue, probably a connectivity issue with the lines on the window. Have you had it looked at for repair or is it good enough as is?
