i currently have the rear brake caliper PN's of:

5K0615423
5K0615424

will the following PN's work?
they appear physically similar.. and VW lists BOTH as compatible for a US 2017 passat NMS.... my car is a 2013 jetta sportwagen but uses the 5k0 PN above

5QM615423A
5QM615424A

the 5qm's are considerably cheaper / more available..

That is a good question. I have Passat new rear calipers and they look so darned alike to our JSW. Not sure if anyone have tried it.

hey @oilhammer , since you have more experience actually working in the repair end of these things. would a mk7 golf rear brake caliper work on the mk6 wagon?

theyre both 272mm..

i do see they have different caliper bracket PN's, but im guessing that is due to a different pad type as those differ there aswell. so im thinking these 5qm's would just bolt right onto my 5k0 brackets and i would use the same original pad PN's

thoughts?

or, do i just buy some replacement calipers off ebay.. there is a seller who is selling both rear 5k0 calipers NEW for $90/free shipping. the store is some wholesale automotive page. im thinking it is a front for a china dropshipper.

i would love to hear your thoughts, good or bad about this whole thing.
my rear brake calipers currently are shot. left rear parking brake is broken, right rear caliper is seized

There are just too many to list....
Well I don't know what a 'Mk6 wagon' is, but the A5 wagons with the 272mm rear brakes use the Bosch design rear calipers, and the A7s use the TRW type. They are different. And both are available brand new, OEM, for not that much money, so not sure why you'd bother changing something.

sorry, habit of calling it a mk6 wagon

where are you seeing OEM new 5k0 rear calipers (bosch) for not much money?

anywhere i look for OEM ones from VW are $200-400 EACH. that price is largely why im looking to other PN's to see if something could work, unless of course you think ebay calipers are just fine.. or know where to get the 5k0's for not $400-800/set lol

Our wholesaler has them for $164 (to us).

I think there are other reboxed ones out there for even less. No idea what they list for.
perhaps i should call some local repair shops!

i would be more than happy to throw some extra cash on so they make a profit, or even give them my originals after for whatever core charges

edit: called my favorite shop and they said theyre going to call their wholesaler and see what the prices are!

shop got back to me, they use "Hudson" brake calipers!
pretty good price, $95 each
more expensive than IDparts, but i understand they gotta make some money too. and that is the part cost to me. it would probably be "cheaper" if they installed them as they could make money off labor instead

IDparts has the hudson calipers for $73 and $68

nice! im thinking ill go with the 5k0's

hang on. I can go to the garage and take pictures of those rear calipers and you can compare them to your JSW to see any differences?
