If you can find one at least a couple years old for under $25k there's up to a $4k federal rebate.

And if it were called a "tax cut" that'd be OK?
That's what it is. It's a credit, not a rebate.
Cut the amount that YOU would otherwise owe is a bit different than having money taken from other's and then handed to you.
Yeah, the end result is the same (you pay less so the collector receives less), but there's less stink if you consider it saving your own money vs. stealing from others.

Yeah, semantics. But I get what you are saying... it is still just bad optics. You live in an area where taxation is a big fact of life, I don't. So I may see it differently.

Technically it's a tax credit, but it's available essentially as money on the hood at the time of purchase. There are even ways to get the discount/credit at time of purchase from a private party sale. The govt. really wants to encourage EV sales.

While they've limited the subsidy to less than full luxury cars, in function it's still a subsidy for high income people that's largely funded by working class people. It especially irks rural folks like me who are paying for these EV subsidies when we have no practical use for EVs.

Well the single earner income threshold to qualify for the used EV rebate is $75k/year. That seems pretty fair to me. Wealthy people typically earn well over that amount.

However, if you lease you can benefit from the tax credit regardless of income: it's reflected in a lower lease rate as Tesla is able to take the credit in some form.

For the record, I don't think there should be tax benefits for EV purchases in any form.

That's an aside that is a whole fiasco in itself... like wind farms being put up, electric co-ops forced to pay for them, finding out they can't be used at night (after they've already been put up and paid for), and then finding out their expected 20 year life span is really closer to 15 years, and that the components are largely throwaway unrecyclable items, so now they are burying used wind turbine blades in town-sized shallow holes all over the place.

No, new car sales should be void of any "incentives" from the gov't, since clearly these incentives don't do squat as intended. I don't care if it's a Tahoe or a Yaris.

And any gasoline taxes should be used specifically for what they were intended. That's why our [modest] increase failed, because they wanted to pile on open ended funding of ambiguous things, instead of ACTUAL ROAD and related infrastructure improvement. Which is what the bill was initially for. Then once you dig deeper, and realize it starts bleeding funds off for research of the migration of the pygmy spotted bald wombat and gender affirming care for llamas in Uruguay.

They're already working on recycling wind turbine blades. They learn as they go along. Recycling of wind turbine blades: Recent developments - ScienceDirect
The rest is political, that's why we vote. In my state they're already working on dropping EV incentives. I just got my registration renewal for the EUV yesterday and it was $327. Next year, it'll be $337. The government giveth and the government taketh.

Yep, and it seems to me there are far too many people on the taketh side.

It costs me $48 for two years to register a car. :D Although there is a $12 inspection fee every two years as well, but I'm the inspector, so that's not a concern.

Thankfully the county where I live ditched the worthless OBD testing a couple years ago, and we're trying hard to get it gone everywhere else. I wish they'd just charge more for registration and ditch the OBD testing. Now THAT's a political thing. Withholding Federal road money that we don't even need for some made up BS about air quality that no longer exists.

Friend of mine is on the board of an REA C0-OP and they actually like renewables, problem is demand for electricity hasn't increased and they're still paying off the bonds on their existing hydro, gas, and coal power plants. So when somebody installs a multi million dollar wind farm on their turf, they have to buy that expensive solar power even though they don't need it. There are some provisions in the IRA that help pay off those bonds so this has become less of an issue.

When they get their adapters.
If you have a Cadillac, they're shipping. I ordered the Chevy one and they're showing backordered. For some reason, they have different part numbers. We shall see.

The golden rule perhaps?
Probably just something stupid like an emblem on a carrying case. The Cadillac ones are done, but they still have to add the bowtie for the Chevy ones. From the pics, they all look the same, even for Ford.

Considering that Tesla has made most of them and has to approve any other adapters it makes sense that they would look alike.
