Real World 2010JSW Gas Mileage--please report here

I have been a owner of both MKV and MKVI TDI.
My previous, 06 1.9L TDI can make 39mpg city/hwy mixed and 43Hwy.
While my new 2010 JSW can do 40mpg mixed city/hwy. and 50mpg on highway.
numbers a way higher than the EPA numbers, and with more torque and horsepower, it's even more stingy on fuel!


What's your experiences?

I'm 1700 miles into mine. I've been doing ~ 70% hwy / 30% city mix and am getting 42mpg avg. Doesn't seem to matter if I baby it or drive harder.

I encourage everyone to try fuelly.com. I haven't driven enough to register my mileage yet, but when I do it'll show up in my sig! So far I'm doing about an average of 40mpg via the computer. More data to come as I get more fuel ups into this vehicle. Should see a lot of travel this month.

FUEL Mileage update

I've just passed 3,000 miles on my '10 JSW and I'm averaging almost 38 mpg on about 75% freeway driving. I know I'm probably losing a couple of mpg due to the wider and more aggressive 225/40-18" tires that I've replaced the stock 205/55-16 tires with...but it's a small price to pay for the transformed looks and handling. I disagree about driving habits not affecting the mpg as changing the way I drive can make a noticable difference in fuel efficiency. Overall I'm right where I hoped to be...a 50% improvement over my Lexus IS 350 and a 300% improvement over my Dodge Ram Hemi. I'm lovin' it!

About 2900 miles on the car
My normal commute is about 75% city, but we did make a 1200 mile round trip to PA for thanksgiving, so my numbers are a little higher than normal. Normally I get around 36 - 37 MPG. With the weather so cold I'm seeing closer to 30 so far this tank :/

Only about 8-900 miles and have seen about 35 mpg with Firestone
Winterforce tires in place of the Hankooks. (I would guess that might
make a difference) The driving is about 75% highway.

2010 JSW TDI vs 2006 Jetta Sedan TDI

On my (departed) '06 TDI sedan I was easily able to get +52 mpg on my highway commute. So far, on the '10 JSW TDI I'm getting about 47 mpg BUT, has anyone else noticed that below 39 degrees F. the mileage goes down because, I think, the engine adjusts to cope with the cold weather?
When I got the wagen in October I was periodically able to get +50 mpg easily...

Nov. 7 Langhorne/Farnham JSW; 1250 miles (3rd fuel-up), 40.7 mpg, appx 70% city/30% highway. So far so good.

I'm only getting 34 MPG overall so far, mostly freeway miles. Best tank was just this last one at 38.9 MPG on all freeway miles, but I do normally go 10 over.

Took a long weekend trip to NJ, got about 40MPG for the whole trip (I cruise at about 70). We've been averaging 33 around town.

Car now has 2300 miles on it, standard 16" wheels with Hankooks.

My experience is pretty much the same as MichaelT. I have 4,000 on the car and I drive 70% highway. I am averaging 42 mpg. I calculate this manually with miles driven and gallons used.

If you are getting less than 40 on the highway you are driving too fast and or aggressively. I set my cruise at 65 in the 65 zones and 60 in the 55s. No tickets and good mileage.

Mileage thus far

Still into early break-in, at under 1000 mi. Highway driving to and from my lab (62 miles away) has indicated 39.6 going, 41.8 returning. Slight elevation gain there, and all is winter driving, 20-36° F. Stock factory 17" tires, but just had them siped--don't know if this will positively affect mileage but it should slightly.

First tank...getting in the turbo pretty solid for break in, 60/40 city/hwy %, 32.434 mpg...432 miles, 13.319 gallons. Hoping for better...but I am not driving it easy so I blame my heavy foot.

I just passed 6549 miles this afternoon after my 11/19 purchase. Just had my first checkup at the dealer on Saturday - uneventful.
My worst mileage has been 38.2 (in a snowstorm) and the best was 47.1. It has averaged 45.3 over the last 4 fill-ups. My commute from Downtown Chicago to Normal Illinois each day is 279 miles round trip. I drive no faster than 67 mph depending on traffic, i tend to drive slower around 63 mph.

I have over 26,000 miles on my 09 Jetta Sportwagon. We calculated the mileage religiously the first 3000 miles with the following results:

• Flat terrain, calm winds, steady 80 mph (Interstate 5) - 42.5 mpg.
• Mixed city/hwy over 200 miles, hills (San Francisco), 33 mpg
• Flat terrain, some side and headwinds, steady 80 mph - 40 mpg
• Flat terrain, calm winds, steady 70 mph - 46 mpg.

Obviously the lower the speed, the higher the mileage. We could never achieve 50 mpg since we tend to drive 70+ mph on the freeways in California.

I have a 70 mile round trip commute, mostly highway. Currently I have 3300 miles on my '10 JSW. I used to get about 41 mpg, but now that the weather's gotten colder, I seem to be losing mileage. I calculated 35.7 mpg at my last fill up using odometer/amount of fuel pumped. Yikes!
