Re: Frequency of Oil Changes

It was my impression that a 10,000 service interval between oil changes on my 05 Golf was adequate-the dealership I brought the car from is very adamant that it should be at 5 rather than 10. Is there going to be enough difference in wear and tear in your opinion to justify doing it every five? I do mostly highway driving and drive well over 30,000 miles per year...

I thought Mobil 1 was not specked for an 05 Golf and I needed to use 505.01...which I am doing

Re: Frequency of Oil Changes

1st change due at 5k miles
2nd change due at 5k miles

all changes thereafter due at 10k miles.

If your dealer can't grasp this, have him log into the VWUSA website and review the maintenance schedule for your particular car - - there's nothing else to discuss.

Mobil's 505.01 oil (not available in USA):

Re: Frequency of Oil Changes

Bog has a 99...the oil spec is different for pre 04
tdi's...don't listen to the dealer...he's just trying to make more money off of you....look at your owners manual and follow it. If the dealer trys to pull that crap again pull out the manual and point him to it...better yet I would find another dealer to do your service...this place obviously does not have what's best for you and your car in mind. If you must use that dealer then show him the manual and if he continues with it then tell him your going to call VoA and report his actions to them. Unless this change was part of the breakin period then every OCI for a TDI is 10k miles with the use of the proper oil.

Re: Frequency of Oil Changes

Thanks guys-car was already past its initial 10,000 break in with the two 5,000 service intervals already done. I want the car to run as well as it can but as always cost is an issue and I don't want to do unecessary maintenance.

Now if only I could harness my mother-in-law's heated invectives I wouldn't have to use an additive in the winter to improve flow. Just not sure how to attach her to the fuel line. Always looking for an edge.

Re: Frequency of Oil Changes

The dealer is probably confused. That sounds like the 1.8T gasoline engine oil change interval. You are right. 10,000 is the proper interval.
