I spent an hour going through the biodiesel threads. In Pgh, biodiesel is 70 cents < regular diesel. I have a 2014 Touareg TDI. Previously I had a 2010 JSW TDI & I fed it biodiesel periodically without any problem. The station in Pittsburgh, Getgo, seems to have a high quality fuel, 100% biodiesel. I'll probably not use it, at least not regularly, given concerns about the warranty. The question is, is this a real concern, or is it more the manufacturer concerned that folks will use recycled french fry oil.

The GetGo on Baum Blvd is B5, but there is an automotive service center just down the road that sells B100 made from chicken fat. I picked up 10 gallons a while back, but haven't used it yet (it gelled due to cold weather).

Which GetGo did you find B100?

Thanks. I dug further & they do say it's B5. The 1st giant eagle site I saw made it look like it was all biodiesel & then had a link to a biodiesel site.

That's good to know that I can save the 70 cents/gal & not void my warranty. No great desire to use B100 just wanting to save $'s.

B100 should never be used in cars newer than 2009. B5 is the limit for VW unless you are in Ill. then there is an exemption for B20. Using B100 in the newer cars is asking for big trouble. You should have found this here in the threads. Do some more reading "before" you do anything.

I trust, and use, Baum Blvd's fuel when I pass through the area, but I don't have a CR as I believe your '14 is.

Thanks all. I was confused about what my station was offering & I appreciate madcap helping me out. As much as anything I wanted to know if it was VW being overly cautious or if the concern about bio diesel was real. One of the responses on Club Touareg was convincing. Apparently, MB pulled their diesels out of Illinois, given the 10% bio mix.

as stated GetGO is blended up to B5, and the reason It is so low IIRC is that they keep the price locked from when they get it from the tanker. So it doesn't fluctuate at all until they need more fuel. It often makes it waaaaaay cheaper like now where its still $4/gal compared to $4.70-$4.80/gal like some other stations. Sometimes however in the summer it will stay high when other stations have gone down...
If you're blending down to b5 anyway, just use theirs and save some money since Baum Blvd is like closer to $5.25/gal and D2 is expensive elsewhere
