RDS Radio issues

I have a 2010 Jetta. Since we've had the Jetta the RDS information has never worked properly. The information would not scroll. It would freeze.
After 6 months the trial SAT radio subscription ended and we did notice some of the RDS information would work on occasions. I brought the car into the Dealer and they told me the radio needed to be replaced. Today, my wife brought the car to the dealer and they replaced the radio. She called me on her way home and said it was working perfectly!!! The song, the artist, the radio station all the information was scrolling by on the screen.
She went home and after about an hour she got back in the car and wanted to hook up her IPhone to the AUX jack. When she clicked on MEDIA the only option now available is CD. Plus the RDS information stopped working again. She checked the SAT radio and now it is working. I'm think the new radio must have reestablished our trial subscription.
There seems to be some sort of conflict between the SAT radio and the RDS info on the regular radio. I have read that a firmware update might fix this problem. But on other forums people have stated this doesn't seem to fix the problem. This is ridicules. If you have any information on this problem please let me know. Thanks

i started the previous thread regarding RDS on the RCD-510. mine has the latest FW installed by the dealer and there is no RDS fix. i took a loaner Tiguan with a different, less expensive headunit and its RDS worked fine.

There are too many variables when it comes to RDS. There's likely nothing wrong with the HU. More likely is the signal is too weak.

put a Jetta with RCD-210 next to a Jetta with RCD-510 and dial in the same station, the RCD-510 will fail while the other will not. so it's not a signal strength issue. What are the other variables? The antenna? The HU?

As you found out, a new HU didn't solve the "problem".

Even if you put two identical cars, with identical radios next to each other, they're not going to receive exactly the same signal. Maybe it's minor differences in the receiver hardware or flaws in the glass where the antenna is embedded. I don't know.
