Hi all,

The stock RCD 510, Premium 8 Stereo in my 2011 Golf Wagon Highline died the other day. I checked all the fuses in the cabin and in the engine compartment. All were fine. Googled this issue, and found that it's very common for these radios to suddenly fail in the 2010 and 2011 model years...

Does anyone know if it's worth to replace it with another RCD 510? I see some on ebay for decent prices. Or is it better to go aftermarket or even just try to see if my deck can be repaired? I would also appreciate any recommendations for repair/ installation places to check out in the GTA. I'm in Mississauga, so the west end would be preferable. Thanks in advance for any advice. The silence in my car is deafening!

You probably listened to too many leafs broadcasts and the radio committed suicide. I hear the stereos in Montreal are a lot better.

Unfortunately gone, but when there was Kromer Radio on Bathurst, they could fix just about any radio.
If there are still repair shops around the GTA to do that I could not say. Everything these days seems to be throw away and buy new up here. In Mexico they will still attempt to repair ANYTHING !!!

This is a Google search for the GTA:

Same Issue here in my 2011 Golf Wagon Highline. I tried all the tricks and took it to the dealer. They wanted my First Born and both my arms for an OEM replacement.

I am still discussing with VW Canada about how a 4 year old car has a radio failure and how they should be replacing. I am well out of warranty, but believe with all the radio issues I am reading about they should be doing something. I opened a file with VW Canada on September 15th. Yet to hear back, they are claiming they have been busy with some other VW issue :p

I replaced my deck with an aftermarket Kenwood, and so far I am loving it and the additional little features. Installed myself quickly using the kits. Prior to purchasing the below and doing the install myself I went to Peel Audio in Brampton. The money I saved on the install I used to by a Keg at home and enjoy while doing the install myself.

Thought I would close the loop. Finally got a response from VW Customer Care that they will offer me 20% off the install and purchase of a new deck from VW. It took over 2 months to get the answer I was expecting. They confirmed their "no" answer with a letter to me that arrived on Monday.

I searched out VW Canada email addresses on LinkedIn and Google and sent a letter to VW Canada and to the President and CEO of VW Canada citing my dissatisfaction with the whole experience.

I got a response from VW Canada last night - still with a no, but they did take accountability of the poor customer service that was provided.

If you have a stereo that has died I highly recommend that you report it to VW Canada so that they know how many of these are out there.

I am very happy with my aftermarket deck, it has a lot better features than the original.

"Dear Mr. Karklins,

I would like to take this opportunity to respond on behalf of our President and CEO Ms. Maria Stenström. I wish to thank you for your email, and for being given this opportunity to respond."

Yeah they're working real hard on winning back our trust... My RCD died last year too but the dealer changed it out with a refurbed unit since it happened while they were doing a recall...if this unit dies not sure what I will do...but unfortunately for VW, I surmise with the lying they've done I won't be back...
