RC3 boost

I've had Rocketchip stage 3 for awhile, but I have just recently got a boost gauge. It seems like the boost is always steady at about 15.5psi at WOT. Is this normal since RC3 is supposed to put out 18.5psi? I'm running 100% biodiesel if that makes a difference, but I wouldn't think that should make any difference.

It spikes a tad over 20psi if I punch it, so I know my boostvalve isn't set too low. What do you guys think?

It could be the boost valve. Also are you running larger injectors?

I would try letting the boost valve out a little bit and see if it increases your sustained boost.

Right idea, wrong direction. If you have a boostvalve you need to tighten the adjuster. I run mine on my PD100 with 2-3 threads showing and it's quite peppy.

BUT...

If I have my boostvalve theory correct, the valve is only to minimize boost spikes. It should not affect steady state boost levels unless you have it adjusted so far OUT that it's leaking boost...

I have my boostvalve damn near closed (2002 with RC2) and I dont get steady state much over 16 psi. So either the gauge is borked, or there's 1.5 psi drop across the IC (I tapped post-IC), the boostvalve is flaky, or there's something wrong with my motor.

I have an auto tranny with the nozzles from a manual golf. I have my boost valve tightened a lot. I'll check again and maybe try tightening it a bit more.

Eventually I'm going to get some PP520's.

Which nozzles you have shouldn't affect overall boost. Maybe your gauge isn't spot-on, I assume your boostvalve is downstream of the gauge, right? And you may have other complications (clogged intake, for example, turbo actuator that isn't working in its full range, failing N75) that are getting in the way of full boost.

When I had stock injectors in my car with RC3 it jumped right to 18+ PSI and sat there. It would spike much higher until I got the boostvalve installed.

I'm wondering if one of the tubes is leaking slightly, giving me a false reading. I noticed one that is kind of messed up from me putting on a T fitting in it's place. I might try cutting an inch off that tube and reconnecting it.

Also, ive heard of people saying they have RC3.1
What is that? What are the differences from regular RC3?

3.1 is Jeff's in house file system. Just means what revision he is on in development of that particular chip. I asked him about it when he did my car. You don't have him install 3.2 or 3.3 for instance, you just get the latest revision of stage three that exists. He kind of chuckled when I asked him about it and said he saw that in the forums as well.

Stock turbo

What is the stock turbo for the B5.5 Passats?

The 20-21 psi pressure is stock (considering the gauge is accurate). Can anyone else comment on individual stock boost pressures for their B5.5?

Mine has ran 25.5-26 psi for 50,000 miles w/o a boostvalve.;)

It's going up to 29 psi (kids don't try this at home:eek:) with a boostvalve next week and if it blows I'll install my hybrid in its place. I think this turbo can take it for short (drag racing) bursts not constant WOT autobahn driving.

What turbo are you running right now?

Yes Aron. The stock boost is 20 ish psi. I installed a PD Boostvalve in my wifes 05' Passat sedan and man is that turbo controlled better than my 00' Golf. It was a waste of time installing it and could easily introduce a leak. If you chip stage 2 or more it's more worth it. We were planning a stage 2 software change but not sure theses days....

Glad to hear you are running approximately the same pressure. I was thinking the same about chipping and have put in on hold for now. The whole warranty thing is my greatest concern. Trying to justify the cost of chipping monetarily has been challenging.... Cheers
