Radio 2014 Beetle TDI

Radio won’t come on . Comes on intermittently. VW logo on screen off set split in two . Top part is on left ,bottom part of logo on right . Don’t know if that means anything . Unhooked positive battery cable trying to maybe reset computer. Now my ETC fault light came on . Car not driven much only 22,000 miles on it . Any suggestions ? Thank you .

Have you tried fully charging the battery with a charger? Not driven much, it could be low. Low voltages cause a lot of issues.

I drove it for about 40 miles this afternoon. The alternator should be able to bring it back up . Thought about driving to work tomorrow. 60 miles one way .

I put the home charger on it . Slow charge overnight . Takes longer than I thought driving . Never really get a full charge on alternator ! Sitting is not good for cars or batteries.

The alternator is meant more for recharging the supply lost during starting. Fully charging one should be done on a charger. Glad to see you made it there.

I slow charged it for about 10 hours overnight . It doing fine now . Interstate Batteries has a good article on charging batteries . Thank you.

Is the radio an rns510? If so, there is a software update available for it that should fix it.

How do I get the software update on my infotainment system on 2014 Beetle? How does it install . My radio is doing crazy stuff . Won’t come on right away. Now it won’t switch to XM . Sometimes it gets stuck on a channel . The off screen is offset . Part of the VW logo is on one side the bottom half on other side . Tried reset with power button . Didn’t help much ? What do I do get new radio ?

Are you able to play DVD movies with it? If so, yes it's the RNS510. If it has these same buttons, then yes, it's the RNS510.

I’d try to get the software update, I’ve had it fix rns510s that were frozen on the start up screens.
