Hey guys,

I've been driving my q since it had 48900 miles on it. Currently has 63500. I haven't noticed even a drop of oil usage in the entire time I've had it. This will be my second full service coming up so 8700 miles and 10 months since last change. Very recently it ate maybe not a quarter of the oil gauge. I only noticed it after 2 x 250 mile trips a few days apart. Both were highway at 70 - 85, but it was HOT out like 95 - 97 on the car readout. Ran AC full time and etc .... is the oil just getting thin at that outside temp and the car eating it? I've driven 110 miles since in more moderate temps and the gauge hasnt moved at all.... what do you guys think?

It's probably just mostly evaporative loss from the extended period of high temps. The Noack volatility rating of the oil is used to express that tendency. My tdi typically consumed very little oil between changes, but on one jaunt through the Southwest under similar conditions to what you describe it consumed nearly a quart. Nothing to worry about. I always bring a quart or two with me on long road trips for such consumption.

Hey Turbo,

Thanks for the reply. I had seen it when you posted it but I made some long distance drives in between and another almost 1k miles, but all 82 and below outside. Not a drop used since, so that makes complete sense to me. I do keep an extra bottle of Motul 5w30 8100 x-clean+ ( https://www.motul.com/us/en-US/products/8100-x-clean-5w30--2 ) in the trunk at all times... same oil that I run in this beast. ( Motul doesn't have a 507 spec 5w40 -- I'd consider this but doesn't seem to exist ) Its used literally no oil other than that in 9600 miles, I have another 400 miles to go, and then I will be doing my 65k service with fresh oil anyway.

thanks again
