Hi guys, I've got a Passat here that I just put a 5 speed manual trans into. Everything works great except I have a fault in the ABS module that I can't get rid of. Its an early Passat (09/04) with ASR rather than the seemingly more common ESP.

I have recoded the CAN gateway to 00006 many times. I have cleared the fault many many times. I've tried different soft coding in the ECM.

I just ran an auto scan. Can anyone point out the mistake I'm making here? I am particularly puzzled by the ECM label "fail"

The problem is that early ABS system on Passat will not work with Euro software version.
You have to use USA software version.
PM me for more info.
So is this implying that the tuner used a european software base to do the flashing and thus there's no way to fix it on the user end without changing to a different tuner? I have the same issue. It's not a huge deal, I can live with the light I suppose (or at least desolder it), but if it's possible to easily fix it I would like to -- the swap kind of feels unfinished until the light is out.

My ABS electronic module failed and I had it repaired. Even with all coding correct, it won't clear error lights.
I unplugged the stupid thing (ABS) and just ignore the ABS light on the dash.
At least NOW it won't apply the brakes on diagonal wheels while I'm going along the road!
Oh...this is on the 05 Passat with manual tranny modification.

I do not know if this directly relates, but a couple of years ago the ABS light on the dash came on. The Las Vegas guru reset it and it came on again within a few minutes. They said they could fix it for about $1,000 by replacing a unit in the steering column. I looked up the part and it alone was over $600. I told them the light did not bother me and went on my way until this month. The car just went past 325K miles this month.

I have had a clunking noise on the right side for three years or so that I finally decided must be the strut. I made an appointment with Matt at Cascade German in Gresham, OR to get the struts and shocks replaced. Great guy, knowledgeable and willing to do the work on July 2nd. He showed me the tie rods and bushing were shot, especially on the right side. So, the job expanded to all that plus struts and shocks. No more clunk and the car feels better. When I got back to Kingman I got new tires and a front end alignment. I have no idea when that ABS light went out, I just know I suddenly noticed it was not on while driving up to Las Vegas airport. The tire guy said they didn't do anything.

Somebody did something that worked and I am happy.
