Purchasing a 2012 Passat in Central Texas

I have been lurking here for awhile and decided to join as I have made my decision to buy a Passat TDI SEL (I did own a Rabbit Diesel back in the day and could not kill that car, I hope I have the same experience with my Passat). Now that the decision is made, I could use some help. I am currently in Afghanistan and will be returning to Texas in a month. Can anyone recommend a good dealer to work with in the Temple/Austin area? I am willing to go to the Houston/College Station area as well.

My local dealer is marking his Passats above invoice and I would prefer to deal with someone else

Mark I have been looking for a 2012 Passat TDI all over the state of Texas. They are hard to come by. I finally found one that is to be delivered within 2 weeks but it is not a SEL. I do know of a black SEL in Lewisville, TX. I guess your best bet is to get on the internet when you get home and start looking.

Are you saying above invoice or above MSRP? It is going to be tough to find right now, you can contact Chris at VW of langhorne, PA as he would probably give you the best deal around....but he is in PA and not TX. His username is 3193 on the forums if you want to send him a PM.

I wrote it wrong, he is selling above MSRP. I thought about using Chris but I have a trade and that is a heck of a drive. It is an option though, as RoadRunner said they appear to be pretty rare in Texas. (at least what I can see from the internet).

I think it will be hard to get a TDI without a ($$) market adjustment in Texas right now. I live in Dallas and I travel for work to Houston avery other week. I have made few friends in Dallas area VW dealer throughout the years, I have been a proud VW owners of 7 VW counting the current ones. I know people in Lewisville and also Metro and Boardwalk dealers. In Houston area I just know the service manager in Momentum dealer at Richmond Avenue. He serviced my Touareg last year with a big repair that VW took care of it. Tell me if I can help you with something... I really don't know anybody in Austin dealers...
If you want I can put you in contact with sales people and finance directors in those dealers here in Dallas area. Let me know..
I got my TDI SEL 60 days ago in Lewisville at MSRP with some goodies as complement.. but it was not easy..I got a good deal because I have bought 4 VW from them in the last 5 years so they took care of me.

Update: My local dealer just took delivery of 3-White, Blue and Opera Red and we are currently swapping emails. If I can get them to MSRP and they have a black interior on either the White or Opera Red (I really like the Opera Red) we may have a deal. I thought the black interior looked a lot better then the tan.

My wife will be taking the trade over Sat. This will be a great welcome home present from Afghanistan, when I return in a few weeks.

Mark, thanks for your service to our country and the great state of Texas.

There are lots of great TDI folks in the DFW and surrounding area. Steve Glover has a new TDI repair shop in Ft. Worth and holds a GTG every so often. You should make it a point to join us at the next one.

Good luck with the new Passat ( I have two! (older though)).

Just another Update. I was correct my local dealer wants $33,795 and says lots of Texas VW Dealers are getting over MSRP. They also offered me $4,000 under book for my trade as "no one wants a Hybrid Pickup".

I went to Plan B and I am working with Hiley VW in Arlington, TX, which has an agreement with my insurance company USAA. They have a Black SEL coming in at the end of Jan. Has anyone dealt with Hiley?

If that does not work out, Chris is Plan C. 25 days till I return to the states (and Thank You for the kind thoughts aja8888 but I am a retired soldier that works for the Government, the soldiers out here are the real heroes)

Stopped in to Hiley to look at the Passat TDI......I was going to buy one regardless, the sales boy looked like he was 12 and showed me the TDI but said I would have to make an appointment to come back if I wanted to test drive it cos they only allowed pee-ons to drive the car on Tuesday evenings. Seriously......so i hopped over to the dealership in Fortworth (closer to my home) and took their TDI for a run and promptly orderd it from them. There are good VW dealerships in the area......Hiley not so much. I hear very good reviews for Metro.

And walk away from anyone trying to give you the MSRP+ BS.......its BS!

I know it does.....I should have known better, they jerked me around a few years ago with our Jetta TDI. The wife hit some plywood on the freeway that took out the rad and core support. I was out of town so it was wreckerd to Hiley and the held on to it for three weeks, kept promising it would be ready "tomorrow" but never even touched it. I eventually sent a wrecker over there when I got homeand fixed it myself.

No experience with Hiley whatsoever but Metro and Lewisville have deliver great customer service. I know some people there that I can recommend to work with in both dealer.
I have purchased 5 cars from Lewisville and maybe that's why they take of me on all my request and on metro VW, the service people used to worked in Lewsiville and I know them well too so now I service my cars in Metro and purchase from Lewsiville..

Hiley VW made a better offer (MSRP $33,200) then my local dealer and while they will not go down from that, they threw in free window tint. All in all a fair offer based on what I have seen from Texas Dealers. Being in Afghan I guess I don't realize how in demand Passat Diesels are. Also, thank god I test drove one before coming over here in Sep.

I would be glad to contact the Lewisville Dealer. It sounds like I will get a better buying experience from them (espically with my wife having to do the legwork god bless her) and they have a Black and Tan in stock. Kchorro if you know anyone could you send me an email?

VW of McKinney has three on Thursday, and sold all of them (of which one was mine). There was no markup, additional kit, etc. While the price for TX was good at MSRP, they did give me 2k more for my trade than Carmax or anyone else offered.

I just wanted to let everyone know I finally got my Car. Metallic Grey/Black (my second color choice, there are no Opera Reds out there). I should get it from Hiley within the next week. There is definetly a shortage of Passat TDIs in Texas. At one point there were only 5 in the entire state.

Update

Just wanted to update everyone and close the thread. I picked up my vehicle yesterday and man was it worth the effort!!! The vehicle drives wonderfully and is beautiful. I landed up buying it from Hiley in Dallas. I really enjoyed my buying experience there.

I will post some pics if you guys want. This is an incredible car for the price, I am still trying to wrap myself around the owners manual so I can use all the features. The best part was the 2hr 43min drive home !
