Production Numbers TDI vs Gasser

[Confused]

As with buying any new car, you start to notice the same model on the road more often. In the 2ish months I have owned our new Passat, I certainly notice more TDI models vs gas models. Is this due to a person's geographical location or was there more TDI's produced? Anyone have real production numbers?

This doesn't really answer your question about production levels, but I think the ratio of gas/diesel depends on where you live. I see probably four or five gas Passats for every TDI in my neck of the woods. Maybe more (but not as skewed as the B4 Passat was).

Jetta wagons, however, are something like 90/10 TDI/gas here.

I would agree with your Jetta Wagon numbers for my area also. I was more specifically talking about the NMS Passat. As for other models old a new, it seems to be more 40/60 TDI/Gas around here.

I have seen a few other TDIs, but I see far more gas versions of the Passat where I live.

I see about a 50/50 ratio across all models except the cc, here on the west coast of fla.

I'm south of you a little bit, but tend to see 80/20 TDI's vs gassers. When I get up to the metro, the ratio is similar to your observation. Mankato VW seems to sell a lot of TDIs as that's the badging I see on many... Ive asked a few VW reps about mix, but they're tight lipped. In 2013 I was reading a manufacturing journal which eluded to the TDIs accounting for about 16% of overall production, but the article indicated that was also an estimate...

Interesting. I wonder why MN appears to have more TDI's vs other areas? Especially with the cold temps we experience and the possibility of gelling, although unlikely. I'm surprised by the 16% figure I realize it's an estimate, but still.

Local dealer has no used Passat TDI's in their inventory 26 new gassers and 31 TDI's. About the same of what I see on the road. 3 2012 + Passats in my neighbor, 2 gassers and my TDI.
