New to the forum. Long time VW owner and soon to be owner of 2013 JSW TDI Manual. Ordered it in June and it was SUPPOSED to be here now. Looking to confirm or deny the rumor that there is a production problem that is only affecting TDI Manual transmissions for 2013?

I checked vw.com’s online inventory tool and of the 5 or 6 different zip codes I checked on the west coast all show 2013 JSWs with manual transmissions as "In Transit". Is there no other soon to be owners that are experiencing the same? I even started a “Chat” online and they referred my back to my dealer to get an answer. I am buying the car through a broker and do not have much recourse through a dealer.

Talked to a Dealer on that. Supposedly, they are phasing them out. Just rumor I think.
I think it's just a rumor. I don't think manual tranny TDIs are being phased out since that's the tranny preferred by drivers in Europe and the rest of the world. I suspect any delay is due to VW struggling to keep up with high global demand.

I hate automatics. My preference is the manual transmission, no matter what the vehicle is.

Good luck.

They could be being phased out in the US market, though. (I doubt they are, as quite a lot of their sales are manuals, as I understand, but who knows...) One less drivetrain to maintain certification on, one less drivetrain to keep parts in the supply chain for, one less option combination.

Plenty of VWs sold here that are automatic only here, yet are available with manuals from the same production facilities for Europe.

Honestly, I would depressed if they(or any company) phased out the manual transmission. I know it is not a necessity anymore and that there are "better" transmissions out there but, the manual is soooo much more fun and a great way to teach kids how to drive and not be scared of the road.

Try contacting Jay at http://askavwsalesguy.com/ He was a lot of help on VWvortex on tracking orders. All you need is your vin and he can track the car.

I'll find out if I have a VIN yet or not. The last status I got was that it was finished but not shipped. It has been in that status for more than a month. My broker says he has confirmed that it is a QUANTITY issue and not a QUALITY issue. I am ready to go Dodge Dart (AKA the wide body version of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta) with a 6 speed and get 36 MPG with gas. I am venting here.

Well - it arrived last Friday. Don't know what changed or what happened exactly and at this moment don't care.
Got 46 MPG on my 29 mile commute this morning. YAY!
