problems with exhaust & emission control on TDI

I have a 2010 Jetta TDI which is my first diesel and currently at 93k miles. In the past 8500 miles my Malfunction Indicator Lamp has come on for problems with the intake manifold, exhaust pressure control valve and now for the exhaust pressure sensor. All of these repairs have been quite costly. Is this normal for this engine? Also I have read of a possible extended warranty (120K) on the emissions aspect for the TDI's and would like to know if this is true before I call VW Customer Service with my "concerns". I thank you in advance for your advice.

I just had the dealer do my exhaust valve/flapper under warranty with over 100K miles on an 09' TDI. But do your homework and have the TB info. Otherwise you are at their mercy.

My dealer indicated the exhaust pressure sensor (fault code not provided) is not under warranty and would cost $225 plus labor. I had used an independent shop that works on European cars complete the intake manifold work (P2015 fault range)and subsequently the exhaust regulator flapper (fault 001151) because they were at least willing to try other options like cleaning the parts vs. the dealer who just said I had to replace the parts. Unfortunately, a cheap plastic gear had broken on the intake manifold and they indicated that the flapper was also broken thus requiring new parts (no rebuilt part yet). I am new to these repairs discussion so what to you mean by TB info? Also are these repairs typical for the TDI?

The troubles are not way out of the ordinary.

you don't want to screw around (meaning ignore and drive around a lot) with the pressure sensor not up to snuff.

bad pressure sensor will not let the DPF active regen happen, and if you wait too long, you will get more warning lamps, and if you still wait, an expensive DPF replacement.

If you talk to the dealer ask them to look for an extended warranty to 120k on the exhaust flapper. they might even pay you for part of the other shop replacing it.(you can always ask)

I spoke with VW Customer Care today and I have a case number to submit a claim for the exhaust regulator since it appears that my vehicle is within the group they have extended the warranty on that system to 120k miles. The exhaust pressure sensor is not covered but I am taking the valid advice to have this repaired ASAP. I pass on my thanks to everyone who provided me very useful advice.
