Pressure sensing glow plug

Hello,

I recently replaced a faulty glow plug on my 2012 Golf with a Napa house brand glow plug which I believe to be an OEM plug rebranded based on the Made in Germany and the 03L 905 061k etched onto the plug. The dead plug was 03l 905 061F which I assume is just an older version of this plug. I diagnosed via the test light method that the old plug was faulty as there was no MIL which I find bizzare. Anyway installed the new plug and starting became much better. Only problem now is that I am getting the P13D3 for the pressure sensor implausible signal. Verified via MVB 141 and cylinder 2 is reading 0.0. Is it possible that this plug was faulty right out of the box as this code was not present with the burnt out plug (however I didn't check MVB 141 with the dead plug). I understand the harness can be an issue as well however wiggling the harness doesn't seem to have any effect on the reading.

Thanks in advance

Hmm I'm following this with interest. Maybe I'll have a closer look at my own car... I've been to lazy to scan it since replacing the glow plug. Mine went like this: pressure sensor dtc cylinder 1. Swapped plugs between 1 and 2, fault moves to cylinder 2. Installed new glow plug from napa, as you describe appears oem with vw scratched off, later suffix. Light has been on and off since replacing the plug. The harness is a common cause of the dtc, there is a TSB on it. I'll report back if I get anywhere with it.

I confirmed it is the glow plug from Napa, will be sending it back for warranty. Wish I had the box with mfg date and lot etc. Wonder if they made a bad batch.

That’s unfortunate. Hopefully it’s a fluke and a new replacement solves the issue. Let me know thanks

The second Napa plug had the same issue, so either they're the wrong plug (I believe the plugs are available without pressure sensor for two of the 3.0's 6 plugs, dunno if they use the same connector) or they're defective.

A new plug from the dealer fixed the issue. If Napa gets back to me regarding any known issues with these plugs I'll report back.

There are just too many to list....
The non-pressure sensing plugs have a completely different connector. They're like the coolant heater glow plug connectors on the ALH and BEW.

Was the new OEM plug from the dealer you got the current 03L-905-061-L part number?

Yes, the OEM one is the L suffix. My car originally had the D suffix. The Napa ones that didn't work were K suffix I believe.
