I went to my local whirlmart and they didnt have any Diesel Kleen on the shelves, I asked a slave there and they said that it has been recalled. Does anyone know of a recall on this stuff? ...Or is it more of a disagreement between them and PS?

Interesting...every wal mart I have been to has cleared their shelves of the Diesel Kleen. Got some Fuel Supplement, but not the DK. I would love to know if anyone has any info.

This is what Power Service had to say:

Thank you for contacting Power Service regarding our products at Wal-Mart. You have encountered one of the following situations: (1) no product on the shelf or (2) product was on the shelf but you were not allowed to purchase it due to a product "recall".

The most important thing for you to know is there is NOT a factory recall of Power Service diesel additives. All of our products are safe and effective for use in your diesel engine. Any product you may have already purchased is useable and not defective in any way.

The reason for the out-of-stock situation and Wal-Mart initiated recall is that Wal-Mart Stores is taking a very pro-active and cautious approach to new regulations associated with diesel fuels and diesel fuel additives. Effective June 1, 2006, all diesel fuel additives sold at retail must be compliant with new Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuels. Power Service, in anticipation of these new fuels coming into production, has been ULSD compatible and compliant for the past two years. In addition, the Environmental Protection Agency is requiring that all diesel fuel additives offered at retail have specific labeling. The label required on all diesel fuel additives produced after June 1, 2006 is as follows:

This diesel fuel additive complies with the federal low sulfur content requirements for use in diesel motor vehicles and nonroad engines.

Wal-Mart has decided that they want all products in their inventory to be labeled with this language effective June 1, 2006. For this reason, Wal-Mart has returned all of their inventory of our products to us to be labeled with the proper EPA mandated language. We will then replenish their inventory with the EPA labeled product. We anticipate that the stores will be back in-stock by June 23, 2006. All other competitive diesel fuel additives in Wal-Mart’s inventory have also been returned to the manufacturer. Again, the only issue is one of labeling - there is no problem with with the functionality of the product.

In the meantime if you would like to source our diesel fuel additives, they can be purchased at the following retailers:

o Advance Auto Parts

o Auto Zone

o Car Quest

o Checkers, Schucks and Kragens Stores

o Murray’s Discount Auto

o NAPA Auto Parts

o O’Reilly Auto Parts

o Strauss Discount Auto

o Tractor Supply

Please do not hesitate to contact to Power Service if you have any problems locating the product you need. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and we look forward to helping you in any way that we can. Thank you for using Power Service diesel additives

Seems like a screw up somewhere along the line. How long have they known that this labeling would be required after 6/1? Why not "roll-back" the mislabeled product drastically to liquidate inventory of the non-compliant product? NO, instead they force customers to go without it for close to a month. Lucky for us, that is probably only one or two tanks of fuel :)

I have enough Stanadyne to last me into July or August. After that, I will be back to using PS.

The funny thing is that a nearby truck stop is actually cheaper on PS in the large bottles than WalMart is. I'm glad I bought mine from WM when I did though because I don't want to keep the large bottle in the trunk! (I Will refill it-- with the old label and all!)

I've not started running PS yet, but will after the third tank. Want to compare MPG with and w/o.

Though I'm debating whether or not to run good quality locally obtained B2 instead since there IS a supplier local to me...

Hey does anyone think that "Murphy's" is selling ULSD yet?

And they (walmart) also mislead x number of customers into thinking that PS was recalled because it was defective, me included for a short time until I got the idea that it could also be a deal where PS got fed up with walmart practices/disagreement etc. By the way thanks for the info Larithmos.

I've been purchasing PS in the convenience store where I buy fuel. Pick it up as I walk back from the beer cooler. Price at $5.+ looks comparable to me.

We should all stop using Power Service and claim that it's because during the period when we couldn't buy it, we realized that we don't actually need it. Then Power Service can sue Wal-Mart for harming their business. Screw Wal-Mart.

I'd love to, but only Walmart carries DK locally (and oddly, they don't have FS, I go to Autozone for that).
Go out to I-40, sure you should find a truck stop there. Also check the Marinas. Lots of those big boats are diesel powered and they usually carry good additives for them.

PS is one of the most cost-effective additives out there.

Racor has an excellent one too, BUT - when I stopped being able to get it at a decent price I went back to the PS.

My take is that PS is over rated around here. It is not the product it once was. And VW recommends only one fuel additive for the TDI engine here in the US. Don't know about the other side of the pond.

PS may well be on it's way off my garage shelf. The new fuel I've been pumping is running so smooth I can tell little difference when I use the additive. My best guess is the ULSDF has been introduced into the mix lately.

Will probably use some now and then for water control out of paranoia.

Walmart notified the supplier 6 months ago

Screw Wal-Mart. See the way they screw the supplier and the customer, sending back all inventory instead of having their own people read the bottles? .
How do we know that perhaps Walmart notified the supplier 6 months ago to change the label, and the supplier didn't????

If that is the case should Walmart eat the cost of re-labeling?
Its costing them something to package them all up, althought they may be billing the vendor if its their error.

Does anyone else have a hard time pouring DK out of the 1 gallon jug? Its always spilling down the side of the jug when i try to fill up.
Don't even try to fill directly from that jug  I have a cheap $0.50 funnel and just fill an empty beer bottle with what I need. The beer bottle works great and I just throw it away afterwards (we unfortunately don't have recycling in my area). Granted, I do this after filling up, but I fill up every half tank so I'm never without some DK in the mix.

A good solution that I used to follow before I got lazy was to use a fuel bottle that I bought from the camping area of the local sporting goods store. Its aluminum and specifically for stove and lantern fuel. Cost about $3.50 and does not leak fumes like the DK bottles do. Fill that up (using a funnel) and take it with you in your trunk.

I fill a Poland Spring 16 oz water bottle.
put half in each time.
I only use this anti gell in subzero weather (white bottle) and maybe once or twice a year for the gray bottle

No problems with the plastic bottle disolving? Its a different type of plastic than the PS bottle.

Advanced auto parts sells a plastic funnel with a short hose on the end of it. It has a turning handle at the base of the funnel which will actually close/open it. Also has numbers on the side to use to measure the amount added. I use it to add 4 - 8 oz of PS prior to filling the tank.

Anyone know who else carries power service products. Walmart has not restocked as yet here in Richmond, VA. Also, the local Autozone and Advanced Auto Parts does not carry PS. Local gas stations do not either. Will check Napa parts store tomorrow and then just have to wait for Walmart I guess.

I bought a 500-count supply of 8oz paper cups (at wallmart!) I carry about 25 cups in the trunk along with PS bottle.

At each fillup, I form one cup with a "spout" and fill it to approx. 6oz. That gets dumped into the fuel tank and the stinky cup is tossed.

No muss - no fuss and no residue in my trunk to stink up the car.

When I switch my PS to the winter stuff, I replenish the paper-cup supply in the trunk...same thing when I switch back to summer PS.

If one figures 500 paper cups = 500 fillups and a fillup is at least 650 miles...that is 325,000 miles worth of paper cups!!!!

"RECALL" is over... I saw the relabeled PS in local Wallmart today.

Upon closer inspection, the PS jugs have a new label on the backside covering the entire old label. There are several comments about ULSD on this new label.

I just bought this at Advance Autoparts. Front of the bottle says "ULSD Formula". Bottle (manufacturer) states to mix 4 oz of PS to 10 gal dsl.
I just bought the 2009 Jetta TDi. Currently has 5,300 miles on it. I decided to buy some of this today based on reading some of the other posts on this site. I'm starting out with 4 oz per full tank. (less than what the bottle recommends) Just to be safe. Anyone have any suggestions / recommendations?

__. And the price says "20% higher"! The '09's have touchy exhaust systems (actually the emissions controls in the exhaust, interlinked with the engine's electronic controls). I like Power Service in my '03 but I'd be very careful with an '09.
