Power loss and then it is back again

I just came back from my road trip to Las Vegas. Day 1 went fine no problems at all. Then day 2 about 750 miles from home I suddenly lost all power and the RPM's didn't want to go above 2400. I turned the car off, started it and it was fine. after about 200 miles then CEL came on. This kept happening during my trip. The outside temp. was approx 110F.

Today I got back in washington and had the car off for a while and the CEL was on when I turned it off.
I turned the car back on about 2 hours later drove off, CEL turned off all power is back. No more problems.

What could this have been? MAF? other things? anybody?

I know I need a VAG-Com but I thought maybe somebody else ever had the same experience.
