Possible misfuel on ALH

Cousin's car (2003 Beetle GL ALH) stalled twice on him. I talked to him on the phone right after he filled up on Sunday morning to make sure he didn't fill up with gasoline so we're fairly confident he used the right pump. Does not mean that the station didn't have an issue on their end. We think about 11-11.5 gallons into it while it sat at an 1/8th tank of good diesel.

Plan is:

1. Call station when fuel manager is there to find out exactly which handle he used.
2. If he didn't grab wrong handle, hold the station accountable for it.
3. If he DID, I'm going to have to drain fuel tank, flush all lines, and hope the injector pump isn't toast.

Questions since we've got a BEW Jetta and more familiar with that:

ALH - does it have a lift pump in tank? If it does not, can we put one in it? If we do put one in it, can it ditch the injector pump? If I'm draining tank and flushing the lines with diesel clean at max load, what else do we need to do besides pray IP is ok?

Or bypass all the that and just smell the tank from the cap. Should be able to detect gas no prob.

No intank pump on ALH. IF gas then drain and fill. I would add some biodiesel just to add some lubricity as you will still have some gas in there. Wont need the diesel clean. The gas itself should do the cleaning, just need to get it out.

Oh it smelled like gas but not the sickly sweet smell at fuel filter. Lit that up when I retrieved filter from car this afternoon. I even pointed out the feel is different between the two using our BEW Jetta‘s good fuel as demonstrator. First got to get it home then drain it to a drum. I’ve got the new fuel filter thanks to overplanning with our Jetta. Not sure if we can find any Bio here as they’re changing over to winter blend. Figure Diesel Purge prime and pull through the IP and lines then good diesel.

I had real good results with Amsoil Diesel Injector Clean after putting gas in my Cummins powered Dodge. It has lubricant in it to make up for the removal of sulfur. I put 2 1/2 cans of that into a full 35 gallon tank with about 8 gallons of gas in it. I drove it easy until the level was low and the P7100 pump is fine. I have been a lot more careful which handle I grab since then.

Rule #1 when owning a Diesel: Install locking cap and don't give a loanee the key!!! You can tell him he doesn't have to fill it up, even tell him NOT to but these will just insure that he will do it. Then it's 50:50 that he'll do it wrong.

My tdi was filled with gasoline and driven until it died by the previous owners (wife) . I bought it at 180K and its now at 395 K and runs like a dream ,so in my experience it did no damage. Maybe just cleand the heck out of the injection pump
